Company Overview
Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.
We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.
And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Ampersand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.
We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.
Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.
Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.
Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.
With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.
Join us in building the power foundation of the future!
We are seeking a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to oversee intricate programs encompassing embedded firmware on microcontrollers and application-level software operating on edge and cloud platforms. Your responsibilities will entail orchestrating cross-functional execution across software engineering, firmware, hardware, product, quality assurance, and system integration. You will assume ownership of scope, schedules, risk management, and delivery quality for multi-release program roadmaps.
Responsibilities:
- Lead cross-functional teams encompassing software engineering, firmware development, hardware engineering, product management, quality assurance (QA), and system integration to ensure the successful execution of embedded and application-level software programs.
- Oversee program scope, schedules, and resource allocation for software and firmware initiatives, ensuring that deliverables meet the specified timeline, quality, and budgetary expectations.
- Communicate program status (milestones, risks, decisions) to executives and stakeholders with clear, regular updates that foster alignment and transparency.
- Plan features and track milestones for software and firmware, closely coordinating integration timelines with hardware and systems development.
- Identify and mitigate risks across software dependencies, firmware stability, release timelines, and cross-functional integration points.
- Collaborate with product to define requirements, roadmaps, and success metrics aligned to product outcomes.
- Manage cost and resourcing, identifying efficiency opportunities (reuse, tooling, automation) to enhance value and reduce overhead.
- Continuously improve program practices, processes, and tooling tailored to software/firmware development for improved execution, scalability, and visibility.
- Support release and validation, partnering with QA, release engineering, and support to manage timelines, test coverage, and issue resolution for software/firmware deliverables.
- A technical degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience in embedded systems, firmware, or software development.
- Two or more years of experience in technical program management or engineering leadership, with a focus on firmware/software products.
- Proven success in managing complex multi-team programs with interdependent timelines and cross-functional coordination.
- A deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile/Scrum methodologies, and firmware development practices.
- Experience in organizations that build products integrating hardware, embedded firmware (microcontrollers), and application software (edge/cloud).
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to influence across levels and disciplines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and evolving requirements.
- Experience with Atlassian (Jira/Confluence) and Scrum tools.
- Preferred: GitHub, AWS, basic observability tools (e.g., metrics, logging, tracing), and Python.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel, to support global teams and execution.
- Planning & Collaboration: Jira, Confluence, Scrum/Kanban
- Code & CI/CD: GitHub (Projects, Actions), release pipelines
- Cloud & Infra: AWS (IAM, EC2/ECS/Lambda basics)
- Observability: metrics/logs/tracing tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana, Sentry)
- Scripting & Automation: Python for light data wrangling, reporting, and tooling
- Hardware/Firmware Context: microcontroller‑based firmware, board bring‑up, system integration
Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.
