The PositionTechnical Product Owner - Legal - RDT Group Functions
We are seeking a Senior Technical Product Owner to support and drive the strategic vision, technical architecture, and end-to-end product delivery for Roche's global Legal technology ecosystem. Partnering directly with Business Product Owners, practice group leads, and senior leadership across Legal
Operations and Patents & Trademarks, you will translate complex corporate legal requirements into scalable, enterprise-grade digital products across both the Pharma and Diagnostics divisions.
Operating at an advanced level, this role moves beyond tactical backlog execution to take senior ownership of product roadmaps, cross-functional team alignment, and the day-to-day delivery of stable teams. Sitting within RDT Group Functions, you will lead the Legal stable squads, mentor both internal and external team members, and establish robust technology governance aligned with Legal and Compliance Strategic Ambitions.
About Our Team: RDT Legal Product
We partner with Legal to enable efficiency and effectiveness through domain-specific solutions, working hand-in-hand to blend IT expertise with business know-how and support their digital journey at every step.
Our Legal Product covers solutions for spend and matter management, document management, contract lifecycle management, workflows, and reporting—which we build (or buy), manage, and operate.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy, Portfolio Architecture & Roadmap Ownership
- Drive Global Product Strategy: Collaborate with Business Product Owners and IT Leadership to define multi-year technical product strategies that fulfill L&C’s strategic pillars (Compliance by Design, Unified Access, and AI Enablement).
- Data & AI Domain Integration: Spearhead the integration of legal platforms with the L&C Data Hub and Snowflake data domain, deploying AI/LLM solutions (e.g., Luminance, Harvey, Legora) while ensuring strict adherence to C4 secret data privacy and attorney-client privilege boundaries.
- Target State Architecture: Conduct comprehensive gap analyses between current-state technical architectures and target-state enterprise models to guide sustainable, high-velocity product roadmaps.
Advanced Business Requirements & Process Analysis
- Value Quantification & ROI: Develop comprehensive business cases, cost-benefit models, and impact assessments that quantify tangible outcomes (cost savings, hours released, risk mitigation) for leadership review.
- Complex Process Discovery: Lead deep-dive discovery workshops across global legal practice areas to map multi-jurisdictional workflows, identify systemic friction, and engineer automated, self-service solutions.
- Specification Standards: Translate ambiguous business demands into rigorous technical specifications, detailed process maps, and comprehensive user story backlogs.
Vendor Selection, RFP Leadership & Commercial Governance
- Lead Vendor RFP Processes: Direct technical vendor evaluations and RFPs for enterprise Legal Tech SaaS solutions, defining criteria, technical scorecards, and architectural fit-for-purpose assessments.
- Procurement & Security Due Diligence: Partner with Procurement, Information Security (SRA), and Quality teams to execute rigorous due diligence, enforcing Roche's security, privacy, and data protection standards for sensitive legal data.
- Commercial & SLA Management: Oversee vendor relationships, Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), SLA performance, cloud analytics, and license utilization checks in partnership with RDT Leadership.
Cross-Divisional Stakeholder Management & One Roche Alignment
- Reconcile Complex Requirements: Harmonize conflicting stakeholder demands across global divisions (Pharma, Diagnostics, Genentech/US, Basel HQ, APAC), utilizing data-driven prioritization frameworks to align on unified solutions.
- Executive Influence & Diplomacy: Act as a trusted thought partner to senior legal leaders, communicating complex technical trade-offs, risks, and platform limitations cleanly without jargon.
Product Delivery & Lifecycle Management
- End-to-End Solution Ownership: Own technical solution definitions from ideation through delivery, hypercare, adoption, and operational transition.
- Agile Execution & Quality Gates: Define incremental release goals, acceptance criteria, test scenarios, and UAT plans that guarantee defensible, high-quality product releases.
- Technical Debt & Stack Rationalization: Proactively track and prioritize technical debt, system bugs, and minor enhancements while recommending redundant legacy systems (e.g., OnitX, SharePoint 2016) for clean sunsetting.
- Application Health & L2/L3 Escalation: Serve as the senior technical escalation point for Level 2/3 support pipelines, ensuring system uptime, performance monitoring, and seamless vendor patch/release deployments.
Team Leadership, Mentoring & Culture
- Lead & Inspire Squads: Guide multi-functional delivery teams (Engineers, BAs, Solution Architects, Scrum Masters) through clear technical vision, high standards, and psychological safety.
- Mentorship & Capability Building: Actively mentor less experienced Product Owners and Business Analysts, elevating team capabilities in scope management, vendor governance, and technical specification.
