Technical Procurement Specialist

Euclid, OH | Lewiston, ME | Coldwater, MI | $90,000–$110,000/year | Full-Time | Exempt

Turn Technical Requirements Into Stronger Supply Solutions

Finding a supplier is one thing. Finding the right supplier—with the technical capabilities, capacity, quality, cost structure, and reliability to support advanced manufacturing—is something different. Elmet Technologies is looking for a Technical Procurement Specialist to strengthen critical supply lines, develop supplier capabilities, and support the acquisition of equipment and services across our manufacturing operations.

This position can be based in Euclid, Ohio, Lewiston, Maine, or Coldwater, Michigan.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Sourcing, you’ll work at the intersection of Procurement, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Production Planning. You’ll evaluate suppliers and manufacturing capabilities, analyze total cost, manage capital equipment purchases, and lead sourcing activities supporting new and existing customer programs. This is an opportunity for someone who understands both procurement and manufacturing—and wants to use that expertise to build a stronger, more resilient supply chain.

What’s In It for You

  • $90,000–$110,000 annual salary
  • Benefits starting Day One, including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Tuition assistance
  • Professional development and internal growth opportunities
  • A highly visible role supporting strategic manufacturing and customer programs
  • Opportunity to influence supplier strategy, capital equipment decisions, and supply-chain resilience
  • Cross-functional work with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Production Planning, and Strategic Sourcing
  • Exposure to technically complex manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, and suppliers
  • Opportunity to support projects from supplier identification through production readiness

What You’ll Do

As a Technical Procurement Specialist, you’ll help ensure Elmet has the suppliers, equipment, materials, and technical capabilities needed to support current operations and future growth. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Source, evaluate, qualify, and onboard new suppliers to strengthen critical supply lines
  • Assess supplier technical capabilities across machining, coating applications, materials, and other manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate suppliers for technical capability and production readiness
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier proposals
  • Analyze proposals using a total-cost-of-ownership approach
  • Lead supplier cost analysis and support commercial negotiations
  • Manage procurement of capital equipment from requirements development through installation and commissioning
  • Partner with technical stakeholders to identify equipment requirements and evaluate technical specifications
  • Conduct vendor assessments and oversee purchasing activities for equipment acquisitions
  • Lead project-based procurement activities supporting new and existing customer programs
  • Support customer launch readiness and sourcing risk-mitigation strategies
  • Partner with Engineering, Production Planning, Operations, and Quality on supplier qualification and equipment acquisition
  • Develop and maintain documentation supporting supplier onboarding, equipment purchasing, and project procurement
  • Identify opportunities to improve supply-chain resilience and reduce sourcing risk
  • Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives supporting long-term strategic customer and business requirements

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be a strong fit if you bring:

  • 5+ years of procurement experience
  • Supplier cost analysis and negotiation experience
  • Experience purchasing capital equipment
  • Experience with supplier development or technical sourcing of components, processes, or specialized materials
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment commissioning, and production workflow integration
  • Project management experience, particularly involving launch readiness, risk mitigation, or customer-driven timelines
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and process requirements
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and procurement workflow tools
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Quality, Operations, Production Planning, and other functions
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment supporting continuous improvement or Lean initiatives

A bachelor’s or associate degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related technical field is preferred.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Success in this role means creating more than purchase orders. You’ll help build the supplier and equipment capabilities Elmet needs to deliver for its customers. You’ll make an impact by:

  • Developing capable and reliable suppliers for critical materials, components, and processes
  • Reducing technical and commercial sourcing risk
  • Improving visibility into the total cost of supplier and equipment decisions
  • Helping ensure suppliers are ready to support production requirements
  • Delivering capital equipment procurement that meets technical, cost, schedule, and operational needs
  • Supporting successful launches of new and existing customer programs
  • Improving supply-chain resilience and reducing sourcing risks
  • Building stronger connections between Procurement and Elmet’s technical and manufacturing teams

A Hands-On Manufacturing Role

This isn’t a procurement position disconnected from manufacturing. Understanding supplier capabilities and equipment requirements means understanding how things are actually made. You’ll work directly with manufacturing and technical teams and spend time in factory environments evaluating processes, equipment, capabilities, and requirements.

The position requires direct contact with manufacturing operations, and the original job description notes that factory temperatures can range from approximately 40°F to more than 100°F.
