About Rune

Rune Technologies builds mission-critical software for military logistics and sustainment. Our flagship product is TyrOS, an AI-enabled logistics command and control platform that gives commanders a single, real-time operating picture of their sustainment fight, from inventory and distribution to medical and operational planning, even in degraded and contested environments.

We're not a traditional defense contractor. We're a small, fast-moving team that combines deep operational experience in and with the DoD with the software discipline of the best product companies, and we apply that combination to a customer set that desperately needs it. We stay close to our users by embedding directly with military units during exercises and rotations, and we ship constantly based on what we learn.

The U.S. military and its allies face a real logistics modernization problem. We're building the software to solve it.

About the Role

As a Technical Operations Engineer, or TechOps Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of quality assurance (QA) testing, customer training, deployment support, and field operations. This role is designed for someone who understands military operations, cares deeply about the user, and wants to help bring modern technology to the soldiers, Marines, airmen, and operators still in the field.

You will support Rune’s Mission Success organization by helping test new software releases, prepare deployment packages, train users, collect product feedback, and assist with software and hardware deployments at customer sites. At headquarters, much of your work will focus on QA testing, training material development, and product readiness. In the field, you will help deploy Rune products, support software updates, train military users, and capture feedback that informs future product improvements.

This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to learn quickly, operate in high-stakes environments, and help ensure Rune’s products work reliably for the users who depend on them.

What You’ll Do

  • Validate new Rune software releases before they reach customers, ensuring workflows make sense for real military users.

  • Exercise the product like an operator would: planning missions, managing sustainment data, updating statuses, moving through workflows, and identifying where the software breaks down or becomes confusing.

  • Test end-to-end scenarios across TyrOS and other Rune products to confirm that the system is ready for exercises, demos, deployments, and customer use.

  • Identify bugs, workflow gaps, confusing product behavior, and training issues, then clearly communicate what happened and why it matters operationally.

  • Prepare deployment packages, including software, hardware, documentation, and training materials, for field use.

  • Provide hands-on technical support for Rune software and hardware products in forward-deployed environments.

  • Assist with installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of deployed Rune systems; manage software updates in support of customer deployments.

  • Develop practical training materials that help new users understand and adopt Rune products quickly; train military users virtually, in classrooms, and in field environments.

  • Capture user feedback during training sessions, exercises, and deployments, and translate that feedback into clear product observations for the product and engineering teams.

  • Build and maintain deployment runbooks and a troubleshooting knowledge base, capturing field fixes so they are repeatable by others.

Qualifications

  • Experience serving in or working directly with the U.S. military.

  • Active U.S. Secret security clearance.

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware components such as CPUs, RAM, storage, cables, peripherals, and networking equipment.

  • Basic understanding of operating systems, especially Windows, Linux and command-line navigation.

  • Familiarity with fundamental networking concepts, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, IP addresses, connectivity troubleshooting, and basic network configuration.

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to methodically work through software workflows, edge cases, and operational scenarios.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, especially with military users, operators, and non-technical stakeholders; interest in teaching new software technologies through classroom instruction, field training, virtual sessions, and written materials.

  • Ability to operate effectively in high-stakes environments while maintaining a strong bias toward execution and delivery.

  • Eagerness to learn new technologies, products, and processes in a fast-moving, collaborative environment; strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, or joint logistics systems, reporting processes, maintenance workflows, or sustainment operations.

  • Experience training military personnel on new systems, processes, equipment, or procedures.

  • Comfort troubleshooting computers, radios, networks, software, printers, servers, tactical systems, or other technical equipment in the field.

  • Comfort working with Linux, logs, databases, basic scripting, or other technical tools — or strong willingness to learn.

  • Experience operating in field environments, exercises, command posts, tactical operations centers, maintenance bays, supply rooms, or deployment settings.

  • Ability to travel to customer sites, military bases, exercises, and field events as required.

Why This Role

  • You will help bring modern software to the military users who need it most.

  • You will turn your operational experience into better products, better training, and better deployments.

  • You will be one of the people making sure Rune’s software actually works for soldiers and operators in the real world.

  • You will work directly with Mission Managers, engineers, product teams, and customers, giving you broad exposure across a fast-growing defense technology company.

  • You will gain hands-on experience in software testing, deployment, training and customer operations at an exciting, mission-focused defense technology startup.
