We are seeking a Technical Lead to join our team, who will oversee a cross-functional engineering team responsible for both operational support and feature delivery, with a focus on platform self-sufficiency, resilience, and seamless partner migration.
The role combines technical leadership with hands-on development, making it ideal for candidates who have a strong background in cloud engineering, particularly AWS and Terraform, as well as experience with APIs, operational resilience, and team leadership.
The successful candidate must be able to attend the office in London twice a week.
Required skills:
- 3+ years leading engineering teams, ideally in a cloud-first or DevOps environment.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services, Terraform and modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Practices.
- Experience with Java, Spring Framework, Microservices and Rest APIs.
- Proficiency with API management and gateway tools like Kong or Mashery.
- Knowledge of data management and analytics within a cloud ecosystem.
- Skilled in proactive monitoring, incident response and alerting mechanisms, with familiarity in tools like PagerDuty.
- Proven ability to allocate resources effectively, balance operational and delivery priorities, and manage on-call duties.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, especially under pressure during incident response situations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to collaborate effectively with remote and cross-functional teams.
Key responsibilities & duties include:
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and mentor a team of 4-5 engineers, fostering a collaborative and proactive work environment.
- Work closely with the Product Manager and other stakeholders to align on team goals and priorities.
- Guide the team in building and maintaining a robust incident response approach and operational best practices.
- Define and implement a technical roadmap, establishing priorities for feature enhancement, resilience improvements and operational efficiencies.
Product Development and Operational Support
- Oversee the development and delivery of new features and functionalities, ensuring quality and alignment with product strategy.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve platform self-sufficiency and reduce operational overhead.
- Act as an escalation point and contribute to on-call support for critical incidents, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
- Manage and support partner migration to Kong from legacy systems, with a focus on high availability and data integrity.
Technical Strategy and Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain a roadmap for the technical direction of the product, prioritising scalability, resilience, and user satisfaction.
- Drive initiatives to improve system performance, security, and reliability.
- Collaborate with other engineering leads to share knowledge, promote best practices, and align on organizational goals.
