At Alchemy, the Chain Services team builds and manages customized blockchains for industry leaders, including World. We're seeking a hands‑on Engineering Leader to guide the next phase of our growth. This role is evenly split—50% individual contributor work and 50% leadership, reflecting the highly technical nature of the team.
This is your chance to work on scaling and maturing the distributed systems infrastructure that powers blockchains, enabling the next generation of fintechs, banks, and onchain apps.
This role is ideal for a seasoned/lead engineer with deep distributed systems expertise who thrives in early-stage environments and enjoys owning both architecture and execution. You'll be designing high-scale systems that orchestrate dozens (eventually hundreds) of blockchain deployments, and working closely with engineering, product, and leadership to shape the future of rollup infrastructure.
What You'll Do:- Set long-term engineering and product strategy in partnership with product and leadership
- Architect, build, and scale distributed systems that manage hosting of hundreds of blockchains at once. E.g. Automation to orchestrate upgrades.
- Contributing to open source blockchain technologies, such as the Arbitrum Orbit rollup framework.
- Build novel behavior into blockchains, such as human-prioritized blockspace systems (e.g., Worldcoin’s PBH)
- Lead projects across tooling, automation, and novel infrastructure design.
- Drive architectural reviews, unblock engineers, and maintain technical standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Platform, Infra, Product/Sales
- Be an early force-multiplier as the team and product scale rapidly
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on distributed systems
- 1+ years in engineering management; proven success in building and leading high-performing engineering teams, ideally in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing and scaling production systems with high availability and complexity
- Deep understanding of infrastructure components: orchestration, replication, load balancing, etc.
- Strong backend expertise with a focus on performance, reliability, and correctness
- Proven ability to lead engineering projects and mentor teammates
- Passion for web3 and enthusiasm about Ethereum, rollups, or decentralized infrastructure

Alchemy is committed to offering competitive compensation, including base salary as well as equity. Additionally, Alchemy offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as other benefits such as 401k and unlimited flexible time off.
The base salary range for this position is estimated to be between $220,000 - $265,000 annually. Please note this range reflects base salary only, and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Your salary will be determined by various factors, including relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, and other business needs.
