Since its inception in 2011, Blockchain has earned the trust of over 90 million wallet holders and more than 40 million verified users, facilitating over $1 trillion in crypto transactions.

We're looking for a Technical Lead, Lending & Savings to lead the engineering direction for two of our core Consumer products: crypto savings and crypto-backed lending.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who enjoys building products from the ground up. You'll be expected to remain close to the code while providing technical leadership, making architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality software. You should have strong product instincts and enjoy working with cross-functional partners, but your primary responsibility is engineering excellence and execution.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the technical direction and architecture of the Lending & Savings platform.
  • Design and build scalable, secure, and highly available distributed systems.
  • Make key architectural decisions balancing scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Remain hands-on, contributing production-quality code and reviewing critical changes.
  • Drive engineering best practices across system design, testing, deployment, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical coaching, and day-to-day leadership.

Engineering Delivery

  • Own the delivery of technical initiatives from design through production.
  • Work closely with the Business Lead and designers to translate product requirements into technical solutions.
  • Break down complex initiatives into clear engineering milestones and execution plans.
  • Identify technical risks early and propose pragmatic solutions.
  • Ensure services remain resilient, performant, and secure as the platform scales.

Product Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Lending & Savings Business Lead to understand customer problems and product priorities.
  • Provide technical input into product planning, helping shape solutions that balance customer value, engineering complexity, and delivery timelines.
  • Collaborate with Product Design, Treasury, Trading, Risk, Compliance, and Infrastructure teams to build customer-focused solutions.
  • Contribute to improving user journeys, performance, and platform reliability through continuous iteration.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of engineers.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Help recruit exceptional engineering talent.
  • Raise engineering standards across code quality, documentation, testing, and operational maturity.

Engineering Innovation

  • Continuously improve engineering productivity through automation and modern development practices.
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools where they improve developer efficiency while maintaining high standards for quality and security.
  • Champion continuous improvement across architecture, tooling, and engineering processes.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Technical Experience

  • Strong experience building backend systems using Kotlin or Java.
  • Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems using Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design.
  • Experience working with Redis or other NoSQL technologies.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture, APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.
  • Experience with monitoring, observability, incident response, and production operations.
  • Strong debugging and performance optimisation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience shipping reliable production systems that process financial transactions.

Leadership

  • Experience leading engineering teams while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong system design and architectural decision-making skills.
  • Experience owning technical delivery from planning through production.
  • Comfortable working with cross-functional stakeholders to translate product requirements into engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset with strong ownership and bias for execution.

Preferred

  • Experience building fintech or crypto products.
  • Experience with lending, borrowing, savings, custody, payments, or other financial infrastructure.
  • Understanding of collateral management, interest calculations, liquidation engines, or financial risk systems.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar as part of your engineering workflow.

COMPENSATION & PERKS

  • Full-time salary based on experience and meaningful equity in an industry-leading company
  • This is a role based in our London office, with a mandatory in-office presence four days per week.
