Instrument is seeking a highly skilled Freelance Technical Lead to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for architecting and implementing frontend solutions using React and Next.js, seamlessly integrated with a Headless Wagtail Backend.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring efficient data hydration with Next and React apps for seamless backend integration.
- Overseeing the frontend project plan, collaborating with the design team, and reviewing code from senior frontend engineers.
- Optimizing for performance and user experience, while guiding frontend developers in leveraging React for data fetching.
- Collaborating closely with backend developers to establish RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints for retrieving structured content from Wagtail CMS.

What You'll Bring
- Front End Development expertise. Skills with React and Next.js. Strong understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+)
- Experience with Headless CMS, particularly Wagtail
- Knowledge of RESTful API design and integration
- Proficiency with GraphQL for data fetching and manipulation
- Experience in architecting and implementing scalable frontend solutions
- Ability to ensure efficient data hydration and seamless backend integration
- Ability to oversee and manage frontend project plans

- Skilled in code review and providing feedback to senior frontend engineers
Pay Range
- The expected pay range for this role is $84-$103 per hour (on a 1099) based on US 3 region, but will depend on the level in which you are engaged
- Our company has three regional pay bands that it adheres to depending on your location, we reference them as US 1, US 2, and US 3.
- US 3 is our base pay. Examples of cities in US 3 are Portland, Houston and Miami.
- US 2 pay is 7.5% higher than US 3 to meet the market rates. Examples of cities in US 2 are Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle.
- US 1 pay is 15% higher than US 3 to meet market rates. Examples of cities in US 1 are Brooklyn and San Francisco.
