We are looking for a highly skilled and passionate Data Science Tooling Technical Lead to join our dynamic team in building innovative and scalable data platform tools. This role will focus on leading a small team developing robust tools that support large scale machine learning model training, serve models out to production environments, drive cutting-edge scientific insights, and improve access to data at Whoop. As the Data Science Tooling Technical Lead, you will drive the architecture and development of cloud-native machine learning and data focused tools, empowering teams with advanced machine learning/AI integrations and data processing capabilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a small team focused on the design and implementation of scalable tooling solutions, building full stack applications deployed on AWS cloud infrastructure. Focus on building tools that enable machine learning model development and seamless integration of models into production environments.
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists and signal processing engineers to streamline the training, tuning, and deployment of machine learning models. Ensure the smooth integration of models into the Whoop production environment, supporting real-time inference and decision-making.
  • Work with data scientists, data engineers, product managers, and other key stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions. Guide the team through the Agile/Scrum process and code reviews.
  • Manage, mentor, and coach a small team, fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and growth while implementing best practice technical solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance, promote best practices, and ensure clear, effective communication to support cross-functional teamwork and align with organizational goals.
  • Stay informed of the latest advancements in ML/AI technologies, AWS services, and cloud computing. Proactively identify and implement innovative solutions to enhance the organization's AI capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, java, or Go for application development. Experience with a front end Javascript framework like VueJS, ReactJS, or NextJS is preferred.
  • Experience with hosted Cloud services, like AWS, GCP, etc. is required. Experience preferred in services such as SageMaker, S3, Lambda, and EC2.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments, with a focus on rapid iteration and continuous delivery.

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
