Join Pipeworks Studios and make your mark on the gaming industry as a Technical Game Designer crafting the AI for an exciting, unannounced Unreal-based AAA project. The ideal candidate for the Technical Game Designer I role is an experienced professional with a background in design or engineering that has expertise in AI gameplay, behavior design and implementation. The Technical Game Designer I contributes to the project offering consultation/review as a direct contributor. This includes collaborating with stakeholders and clients across disciplines and projects.

Day To Day

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate as a project contributor, collaboratively creating, communicating, and managing tasks independently
  • Design, implement, and maintain technical systems and tools to support game design
  • Provide detailed and iterative design documentation to support the development lifecycle
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technical staff to ensure the successful implementation of game mechanics and features
  • Communicate with external stakeholders, including clients, per project requirements
  • Occasional travel, per project requirements

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Must Haves

  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Experience with designing complex systems and/or tools
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in scripting and programming languages
  • Current/up-to-date experience in Unreal, or equivalent, including source control
  • Familiarity w/ Jira, Confluence, or equivalent task tracking and collaborative environments
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both written and verbal
  • Show exceptional deductive reasoning skills
  • Work with and lead teams, including taking direction and inspiring others
  • Assist in solving problems in resourceful ways
  • Organize and communicate complex systems and data with an attention to detail
  • Work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Be flexible to changing priorities
  • Able to work well and collaborate with remote teams

Nice-To-Have Skills

  • Unreal 5 experience with emphasis on blueprints
  • Experience with AI and NPC/Enemy Behavior
  • FPS and/or 3rd person action experience

Education & Experience Required

  • 3+ years relevant work experience in Game Design or Engineering
  • 1-2+ professional titles shipped as a game designer or engineer
