Position Title: Technical Editor II
Location: Mc Lean, VA, (occasional support at FHWA HQ, Washington, DC)
Clearance required: Unclassified. Requires USDOT badge and favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI, low risk / non-sensitive); E-Verify required
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Act as the final gatekeeper for high-stakes deliverables, editing technical brochures, standard operating procedures, research reports, technical summaries, and other highly technical documents.
- Transform raw data and engineering jargon into authoritative documents meeting stringent agency requirements, including reference checking, fact checking, and copyright compliance.
- Ensure complex schematics and data tables integrate seamlessly with narrative text for technical review and public transparency.
- Work closely with engineers and developers to distill complex technical concepts into clear communications.
- Work independently, managing the full lifecycle of a document from outline to final publication.
- Bachelor's Degree in Technical Writing, English, or a related scientific/technical field.
- 3-10 years of experience in technical writing or documentation.
- Expert-level command of the GPO Style Manual.

- Transportation experience, especially in highway and surface transportation.
