Who are we looking for?

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced technical leader in Urban Planning to join GHD at an exciting stage of growth. As we expand our Planning offering across NSW and ACT, you’ll help build a new team, shape our technical capability and influence the services we bring to market.

Working within our newly formed Places, Planning and Movement group, you’ll lead diverse, large-scale and city-shaping projects across the region, spanning planning, design, infrastructure and delivery. You’ll partner with clients and collaborate with specialists across Australia and the APAC region to deliver high-quality statutory and strategic planning outcomes.

This role offers the platform to lead complex assessments, influence strategic project outcomes, mentor emerging talent and contribute to the continued growth of a respected national practice. It is a chance to combine technical leadership, client engagement and team development in a role where your expertise will make a tangible difference to communities, clients and the environment.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Providing leadership, strategic advice, and resource coordination across a diverse portfolio of urban development projects.
  • Providing expert advice relating to land use, subdivisions, development capability, due diligence assessments, master plans and the approval process and management.
  • Overseeing planning and approvals by understanding client requirements and offering technical guidance and support to project teams.
  • Supporting the growth of our Planning team by leading, mentoring, and enhancing overall planning capabilities.
  • Developing integrated Property and Planning service offerings, while serving as Project Director on key development projects.
  • Identifying and pursuing business opportunities to drive growth
  • Liaising effectively with clients, internal specialists, sub-consultants, as well as Commonwealth and State Government departments, agencies, and local councils.

What you will bring to the team:

  • A degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning or a related discipline
  • 15 or more years’ experience in a planning consultant role
  • A comprehensive working knowledge of NSW planning legislation, approvals pathways and rezoning processes
  • Expert experience leading complex, multidisciplinary projects, including precincts, master planning, infrastructure or state‑significant projects
  • Advanced project management skills, with the ability to balance technical, commercial and stakeholder considerations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging clients, regulators and project partners
  • An interest in growing a rewarding planning practice, building client relationships and working across GHD’s broader market sectors
  • A collaborative mindset and a desire to support and develop others.
