Are you a technically minded game designer with a deep love of Old School RuneScape and a passion for building smart, scalable systems?

As a Technical Designer within the Old School RuneScape Design team, you’ll play a key role in designing and implementing engaging content with a strong focus on technical foundations. You’ll combine creative design thinking with scripting expertise, ensuring content is not only fun and memorable, but technically sound and efficient within the OSRS engine.

Working in small to medium-sized multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll help shape weekly game updates for one of the world’s most community-driven MMORPGs, while continuously expanding your knowledge of our systems, engine capabilities, and in-house tools.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design and implement engaging game content that leverages the technical strengths of Old School RuneScape.
  • Script your designs using our in-house language, RuneScript, delivering technically robust and scalable solutions.
  • Provide proactive technical input across the team, ensuring content is efficient, maintainable, and aligned with engine capabilities.
  • Create and maintain technical design documentation to support development and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop tools and workflows that improve both your own efficiency and that of the wider design team.
  • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary development teams to deliver updates to a live game with a weekly release cadence.
  • Build a deep understanding of the game’s core systems and engine behaviour to inform high-quality technical implementation.
  • Use game data and player insight to inform design decisions that address content gaps and business needs.
  • Contribute to discussions around engine capabilities and, where appropriate, work alongside engineers to enhance what can be achieved within RuneScript.

What we’re looking for:

  • Technical experience with scripting or programming, and the ability to apply problem-solving skills to complex systems.
  • Strong understanding of MMORPG systems and their internal structures.
  • Proven experience working within a game design or development team and familiarity with development processes.
  • Ability to manage your time effectively in a fast-paced live game environment.
  • A deep working knowledge of Old School RuneScape, RuneScape or other MMOs, including skills, quests, metas and player behaviours would be very beneficial.
