Job Description

We have an opening for a Technical Coordinator/Senior Technical Coordinator. You will support the Electronics Fabrication and Installation (EF&I) Team in the National Security Engineering Division.  You will provide general technical and administrative coordination support for acquisition, tracking, and coordination of parts, materials, and status on a variety of electronic and network installation projects. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. 

In this role, you will 

  • Provide general coordination support through technical and administrative knowledge to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel in connection with moderately complex electronics fabrication and installation activities.
  • Assist Procurement Lead with providing acquisition support to senior technicians, technical associates, and engineers/scientists on moderately complex projects.
  • Interact with vendors, engineers, customers, other fabrication shops, LLNL Procurement and LLNL Receiving to ensure timely delivery of project information and components to the production and installation teams.
  • Stage, transport, and deliver parts around the LLNL site; for secondary operations and/or staging of assembly/installation efforts; deliver or pick up parts from local-area suppliers.
  • Provide regular detailed project status to supervisor and customers/requesters.
  • Anticipate and reconcile supply problems, including obsolescence, long lead times and other technical factors affecting critical milestones.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 538.3 level

  • Serve as EF&I Procurement and/or Coordination Lead training coworkers, tracking job and procurement status, and delegating procurement activities to support the organization.
  • Prepare technical procurement packages and coordinate the installation of capital equipment for process and facility improvement projects in support of EF&I growth and ongoing activities at both Livermore and Tracy sites.
  • Develop safety documentation required for vendors to work onsite in support of installation activities and projects.
  • Make independent decisions and recommendations regarding fabrication alternatives, supplier selections and substitute hardware and materials using LLNL guidelines, techniques, and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in electronic technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience in electronic fabrication and/or network infrastructure installation.
  • Intermediate skills and understanding of electronic and network components including cable harness, circuit boards, copper cabling and fiber optics for the practical application of breaking down BOMs (Bill of Materials) for acquisition at the component level.
  • Intermediate skills and understanding of the acquisition process; knowledge of approval, bid, award, inspection acceptance, receipt, reconciliation, and close-out.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Office 365 applications Microsoft Word, Excel (data consolidation, formulas, and macros), PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical and facility level drawings.
  • Effective interpersonal, teamwork, written verbal and presentation communication skills.

Additional qualifications, at the 538.3 level

  • Advanced skills and understanding of complex electronics fabrication or network infrastructure technologies and acquisition process including familiarity with industry standards and/or fire and electrical codes.
  • Ability to convert electrical, mechanical and/or facility level drawings into time and material estimates.
  • Ability to mentor, lead and prioritize the work of other team members.

Qualifications We Desire

  • High-level skills and experience as an electronics fabrication technician or network installer.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards such as ANSI, IPC, BICSI, NEC, NFPA.
  • Experience with Office365 automation applications like Power Automate or Power BI.

Pay Range

$43.55 - $63.97 Hourly

$43.55 - $53.36 Hourly for the 538.2 level

$52.23 - $63.97 Hourly for the 538.3 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

This is a Flexible Term appointment, which is for a definite period not to exceed six years.  If final candidate is a Career Indefinite employee, Career Indefinite status may be maintained (should funding allow).

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.  If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
