Role Overview:

The role of the UK & Ireland Technical Consultant - Poultry is to provide leadership in the technical positioning of our Poultry portfolio across the affiliate and to the Monogastric food animal industry, by:

  • Supporting the sales of the portfolio, including making recommendations to customers around product usage and application
  • Education, training and coaching of the commercial team in technical knowledge to an outstanding level
  • Building upon an established brand marketing strategy through developing innovative materials, strategy, messaging and perspective.
  • Building a wide external network within the marketplace, including KOLs and KDMs to grow product positioning and support sales
  • Support technical queries and manage pharmacovigilence

This position involves a combination of technical field work, training and education, coaching, presenting information to customers in a distilled format (ability to translate technical information into a digestible format), and collaboration with an experienced team in high-stakes accounts (B2B sales). The candidate must have the ability to work across all poultry customers and geographies in a ‘boots to boardroom’ approach. The candidate must have a passion to own the technical landscape, focused largely on Intestinal Integrity & Food Safety in Layers & Broilers, and work with all internal functions (regulatory, marketing, commercial etc.) to deliver their technical strategy with excellence. The role involves working with local, regional and global peers, and as such offers significant opportunity for development within the organisation.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility for the Technical Consultant, Poultry will be to lead, transform and elevate the Food Safety portfolio strategy and technically support the wider portfolio (including anticoccidials, de-wormers and antibiotics). This will include internal and external technical leadership, particularly of the Food Safety(Vaccine) brands sales, customer education and training of the commercial team. The portfolio offers a market leading, best and first in class platform for our customers, with significant emphasis on non-product value to drive engagement with the customer base.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Engaging closely with the needs of marketing and sales team, ensuring strategies are aligned with correct technical messaging.
  • Engaging closely with the Elanco Account Teams to tailor support to both large B2B customers and smaller integrators and aligned with the Elanco technical strategy.
  • Supporting the sales of the portfolio, including making recommendations to customers around product usage and application.
  • Ensuring all internal stakeholders are exceptionally trained in disease state(s) and the implications on bird health and welfare
  • Reviewing past and current technical literature to create new materials (with Marketing and Regulatory functions) for use within/outside of the organisation/affiliate
  • Designing, executing and analysing Product Evaluations in the field, in conjunction with commercial colleagues and the external supply chain
  • Education and support of internal and external stakeholders across all levels, including answering off-label queries and pharmacovigilance management

Essential Key Job Functions:

  • Experience and/or an interest in leadership of technical animal health products, including premix and vaccines
  • A passion for Food Animals, and an interest in sustainable and responsible poultry meat/egg production an advantage.
  • An understanding of poultry health & husbandry, and/or experience in a technical role is a significant advantage.
  • Confidence and conviction to provide technical support for customers around a broad portfolio, including off license information where appropriate.
  • Conducting diagnostic work (necropsies, farm visits etc) and running any pharmacovigilance investigations.
  • Work closely with the internal sales and marketing teams and wider Elanco functions; Ability to display leadership, delegation and pulling together of resources where appropriate.
  • Work within local and company guidelines of compliance and ethics and due diligence in interactions with customers, sponsorship and support of external companies.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external account stakeholders and work with them to develop mutually beneficial opportunities.
  • The ability to engage with and influence external stakeholders from farm managers and agricultural staff to commercial decision makers and Veterinary Surgeons.
  • The candidate will be trained in supporting the Elanco products but willingness to learn ‘on the job’ is essential.
  • Team members are encouraged to work regionally, as a team, and plan diaries to minimise travel time.
  • Networking and social events are a highlight of the industry, there is a requirement to attend and represent the Elanco brand and team, often hosting customers, as part of this role.

Basic Qualifications/requirements:

  • MRCVS Qualification (or equivalent overseas qualification + conversion)
  • 1+ years in a clinical setting, or in industry experience
  • Monogastric clinical or industry experience an advantage
  • An interest in immunology an advantage
  • Passion for agriculture, food security and the food animal sector
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and interpersonal
  • Organisational skills and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to impart technical and scientific knowledge at appropriate levels
  • Strong sense of personal accountability
  • Full UK driving license
  • English - written and verbal

Travel Percentage: 25-50% (Across UK and Ireland with occasional European travel and infrequent global travel)
