Job Description

As we grow our Data & AI capability in Australia, we are seeking a Data & AI Technical Business Analyst to play a key role in helping clients connect their strategic goals with practical, data-driven technology solutions. This role is pivotal in extracting insights from data, defining requirements, shaping solutions, and supporting the delivery of advanced data and AI initiatives.

The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical and communication skills with a deep understanding of data, technology, and business processes. Acting as a translator between technical teams and business stakeholders, the Technical Business Analyst ensures that every solution is aligned with client needs and delivers measurable value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis & Insight Generation
    • Analyse datasets to identify trends, correlations, and patterns that inform business decisions.
    • Work with data scientists and analysts to uncover opportunities for improvement or innovation.
       
  • Requirements Gathering & Gap Analysis
    • Engage with business stakeholders to understand pain points, objectives, and success criteria.
    • Translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements for technical teams.
    • Conduct gap analysis to assess differences between current systems and target states.
       
  • Solution Design Support
    • Collaborate with data architects, data engineers, data analysts, and data scientists to design solutions that meet business requirements.
    • Contribute to solution planning across software development, data integration, analytics, and AI.
       
  • Documentation & Technical Specifications
    • Write high-quality functional and technical specifications to guide delivery.
    • Ensure consistent documentation and alignment between technical and non-technical audiences.
       
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication
    • Serve as a key liaison between business users, product owners, and delivery teams.
    • Present complex technical ideas in a clear and accessible manner.
       
  • Process Improvement & Opportunity Identification
    • Identify inefficiencies in current processes and propose technology-enabled improvements.
    • Leverage emerging data and AI capabilities to recommend innovative solutions.
       
  • Testing & Implementation Support
    • Support validation and user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet defined requirements.
    • Assist with rollout and adoption planning to ensure successful implementation.
       
  • Project Support & Governance
    • Contribute to project planning, ensuring timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met.
    • Assist with risk identification and mitigation strategies related to new technologies or system changes.
    • Conduct cost-benefit analysis to evaluate the value and feasibility of proposed solutions.

Qualifications

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Skills
    • Understanding of databases, APIs, system architecture, and data integration principles
    • Experience with tools and technologies such as SQL, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, Quicksight)
    • Familiarity with data science and AI workflows (e.g. model development, deployment, governance)
       
  • Core Business Analysis Competencies
    • Requirements elicitation and stakeholder interviews
    • Functional and technical specification documentation
    • Gap analysis and impact assessment
    • Cost-benefit analysis and business case development
       
  • Soft Skills
    • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to analyse data, systems, and processes to find optimal solutions
    • Communication: Able to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Problem Solving: Identifies root causes and proposes practical, scalable solutions
    • Stakeholder Management: Builds strong relationships across technical, business, and executive teams
    • Leadership: Acts as a trusted advisor to clients, bringing clarity and confidence to complex delivery programs

Preferred Industry Experience

  • Experience in banking, financial services, insurance, or healthcare is highly valued.
