The Technical Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting modern API-led and event-driven integration solutions that enable business and technology outcomes. A key focus of the role is establishing and demonstrating the value of our Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) capability to the business, ensuring it is effectively adopted as the strategic foundation for integration delivery. This role plays a critical part in enabling teams across the organisation to scale integration best practices through reusable services, platform capabilities, and strong governance, while driving consistency, efficiency, and innovation.
The role involves close collaboration with multiple departments and requires a strong foundation in APIs, integration patterns, and modern DevOps practices.

What a typical day looks like:
- Applying and clearly articulating RESTful API principles and Application Network concepts to support scalable, reusable integration designs
- Acting as a key member of the Centre for Enablement (C4E), onboarding new teams onto the integration platform and guiding them to adopt best practices and achieve success
- Evolving and supporting our API Gateway platforms, with an understanding of policies, security, traffic management, and lifecycle management
- Working with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform to design, build, and manage APIs and integrations aligned to API-led connectivity principles
- Supporting the architecture of application integrations, helping teams select appropriate integration patterns (e.g., synchronous APIs, event-driven approaches) and the right technology solutions
- Building and maintaining APIs and platform tooling to enhance integration capabilities and accelerate delivery across teams, including solutions with no SQL databases (MongoDB) and caching solutions like Redis
- Leveraging DevOps and CI/CD practices to automate build, test, and deployment pipelines for integration services
- Applying knowledge of containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift) to support scalable and portable deployments
- Understanding secure integrations using Okta, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and various grant types
- Working with message and event broker technologies such as Kafka and RabbitMQ (AMQP) to enable event-driven architectures
- Using and integrating with observability platforms, i.e. ElasticSearch / Kibana for monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting
- Exploring opportunities to leverage the evolving AI landscape to enhance our integration platform capabilities and unlock new sources of business value
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to diagnose issues, optimise performance, and ensure reliability of integration services
- Continuously learning and evaluating new tools, technologies, and integration approaches in a rapidly evolving landscape
- Actively contributing ideas, improvements, and innovations to enhance platform capabilities and developer experience
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 12 - 15 Years of experience in IT.
- Experience or understanding of API development and integration concepts in an enterprise environment
- Familiarity with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform or similar integration platforms is highly desirable
- Knowledge of API Gateway concepts, security, and traffic management
- Understanding of OAuth2 and OIDC authentication flows, ideally with exposure to Okta
- Experience or exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD tooling
- Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift
- Understanding of TypeScript and modern UI development practices, including Web Components and Lit (LitElement), to support the development of reusable tools and platform interfaces
- Exposure to ELK stack or similar logging/monitoring platforms
- Experience building APIs or services using modern programming languages (any experience with GoLang is a plus)
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders
- A proactive mindset with a strong desire to learn, innovate, and adapt to new technologies and ways of working
