Job Responsibilities
Koppers Performance Chemicals (KPC) is seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Technical & Commercial Support Manager to serve as a key liaison between our manufacturing operations, commercial teams, and external stakeholders. This role is responsible for supporting the technical aspects of our commercial business—including building codes, specifier engagement, and contractor/architect relations—while also assisting our residential and industrial segments with customer and industry inquiries.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of chemical wood preservatives, regulatory frameworks, and product performance standards, and will be comfortable interfacing with third-party agencies, customers, and internal teams.
- Provide technical guidance on product specifications, building codes, and regulatory standards to architects, specifiers, contractors, and commercial partners.
- Respond to inquiries from residential and industrial customers regarding product use, performance, and compliance.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to ensure technical accuracy in promotional materials and literature.
- Represent KPC in interactions with third-party agencies, certification bodies, and regulatory organizations.
- Coordinate product testing, certification renewals, and documentation required for compliance and market access.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and ensure product alignment with evolving requirements.
- Support the Research & Development team in evaluating new formulations, performance testing, and field trials.
- Provide market feedback and technical insights to guide product innovation and improvement.
- Review and manage product warranties, ensuring clarity and consistency across customer segments.
- Investigate and resolve product claims in collaboration with quality assurance and customer service teams.
- Maintain detailed records of claims and resolutions for internal reporting and continuous improvement.
- Assist in the development and review of technical literature, brochures, and digital content.
- Ensure all marketing materials reflect current product specifications, certifications, and regulatory compliance.
- Support strategic planning initiatives by identifying markets for business growth and obtaining market intel to support business initiatives in conjunction with appropriate Koppers business units.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Construction Science, or related field; advanced degree or certifications preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in technical sales, product support, or regulatory affairs within the chemical, building materials, or wood treatment industry.
- Strong understanding of building codes, product certification processes, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., AWPA, ICC, EPA).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information for diverse audiences.
- Experience managing customer inquiries, product claims, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with wood preservation technologies and treatment processes.
- Experience working with third-party testing labs and certification agencies.
- Proficiency in technical writing and document review.
- Ability to travel occasionally for customer visits, industry events, and agency meetings.
