Technical Accounting Manager
Location: Columbus, OH (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)
Job Summary
The Technical Accounting Project Manager provides accounting-related support for corporate development and complex business transactions. The Manager works with Accounting and Finance teams to onboard new transactions and initiatives, providing business partner support and technical guidance. They support the Accounting organization through accounting policy and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Essential Functions
Performs research and prepares documentation for complex business transactions and provides the appropriate accounting guidance
Evaluates and assists in the implementation of new or revised rules of the FASB, AICPA, SEC and other agencies
Integrates newly promulgated accounting standards into accounting policies and processes.
Assists in the preparation of response letters and working groups associated with FASB and SEC exposure drafts that impact NiSource or the public utility industry
Prepares corporate accounting policies and procedures
Prepares technical accounting memos that address complex accounting issues, non-recurring transactions, new accounting guidance, etc.
Designs workflows to assist in the compliance with GAAP and SEC disclosure requirements
Keep current with emerging accounting and reporting guidance and trends including FASB standards and interpretations, and SEC releases and speeches. Reviews summaries that include the potential impacts to the Company, and presents findings to affected business partners
Identifies and understands emerging business issues affecting the company and energy industry, and provides accounting recommendations to address the issues.
Consults in the economic analysis of business opportunities and proposals
Interface with external auditors and accounting support related to complex accounting issues
Required Qualifications For Position
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related discipline
- 4-6 years progressive experience working in Accounting or other related business field. Big 4 Accounting firm experience preferred
- Demonstrated strong verbal communication and presentation skills
- Proven ability to coordinate projects and manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to take on responsibility and challenging work assignments
- Demonstrated proficiency in coordinating activities across functions.
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Financial systems experience
- Strong technical accounting skills and solid understanding of current generally accepted accounting principles and SEC reporting requirements.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- 1-3 years Previous supervisory or project management experience

Salary Range*:
$110,200.00 - $165,300.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
