What you'll do:
Own the controls program. Maintain the risk-based roadmap, governance, annual plan, issue log, remediation cadence, and concise management reporting
Define scope and accountability. Map significant accounts, processes, systems, assertions, risks, controls, and owners; refresh scope as the business evolves
Build durable documentation. Develop and maintain narratives, flowcharts, risk-and-control matrices, entity-level controls, management review controls, and policies
Drive remediation and readiness. Identify design and execution gaps, assign owners and dates, verify closure, and prepare priority processes for operating-effectiveness testing and future SOX requirements
Lead technical accounting. Research and document U.S. GAAP conclusions for complex or unusual transactions and translate them into policies, journal-entry treatment, disclosures, processes, and controls
Embed controls into operations and systems. Partner across Accounting, FP&A, Legal, IT, People, Supply Chain, and program teams, including during ERP and other finance-system implementations
Coordinate assurance. Serve as a primary liaison to external auditors and specialized advisors while retaining internal ownership of decisions, evidence standards, and execution
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Active CPA required
- 10+ years in accounting, audit, internal controls, or advisory, with meaningful hands-on responsibility for both technical accounting and control design or SOX readiness. Experience building or materially advancing a controls program in a high-growth, pre-IPO, newly public, or complex public-company environment
- Strong command of U.S. GAAP, COSO, financial statement assertions, and ICFR design and evaluation
- Ability to write clear, defensible accounting memoranda; apply pragmatic, risk-based judgment; influence without direct authority; communicate clearly; and drive work end to end while balancing rigor with business needs
Bonus points for:
- Experience in a high-growth, manufacturing, R&D, project-based, or operationally complex environment
- Experience with Odoo or similar ERP systems
Must-have Requirements:
- Perform extended activities such as typing, standing, sitting, walking, etc.
- Occasional nights/weekends/on-call may be required during payroll processing, month-end close, audit, compliance deadlines, system issues, or urgent operational escalations.
- Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics

Commonwealth Fusion Systems Insights
What We Do
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy. CFS is collaborating with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with new groundbreaking high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. CFS is now building SPARC, the world's first commercially relevant, net energy fusion demonstration device. SPARC will pave the way for the first fusion power plant, ARC, that will produce power on the grid. The ultimate mission is to deploy fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. CFS has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by the world’s leading investors, CFS is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change.
