The Role

Moving your career forward
Our CEO, Angus spotted that many vans on the roads are half full or empty at any given time and so AnyVan was born in 2009 to create the world's most efficient technology logistics platform and help halve the number of miles driven.

We've achieved incredible milestones since then, including securing the largest funding round for a UK tech logistics company from Vitruvian Partners. Today, AnyVan is the largest and fastest-growing company in the logistics space, with big ambitions for the future.

We're committed to moving that's miles better and have helped over 8 million customers across the UK, Ireland and Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain) and over 150,000 customers have rated us excellent on Trustpilot.

By using innovative technology, we're transforming the moving experience, cutting costs and doing our part for the planet to make sure moving doesn't cost the earth. We've saved enough miles to travel 1,185 times around the world, reduce 8520 tonnes of carbon annually and are proud to be the only carbon neutral removals and delivery company in the UK!!!

We're looking for passionate individuals to join our talented team of approx. 300 AnyVanners in our London and Cape Town offices. If you're as driven as we are and want to be part of a forward-thinking company to make moving 'miles better' and moving your career forward at the same time - we'd love to hear from you!

Our innovative tech stack is a key part of how we can deliver a world class service at market beating prices. By intelligently matching customer’s jobs to driver’s availability, we can better use vans on the road. This smart allocation allows us to constantly lower prices for our customers, while ensuring our drivers get a fair slice of the pie - all the while cutting miles driven, reducing waste and emissions.

But we've only just started! Over the next few years, we’ll be levelling up our platform.

We’re an agile organisation - while most of our teams use scrum with two week sprints, we’re not prescriptive and encourage engineering managers and product managers to adapt processes to match their team. We believe strongly in delivering business value, and our engineering managers will regularly interact with stakeholders from all backgrounds and seniority - all the way up to board members - to ensure the team is aligned with the broader business.

We're a cloud-first organisation, with AWS being our cloud provider of choice, and our preferred programming languages are Java - with Spring - and Javascript - using Vue.js. We’re not against exploring other languages where appropriate, with other projects using Python and TypeScript. And of course, no scale up would be complete without a legacy PHP stack we’re slowly migrating away from! Well, no-one’s perfect…

We're looking for an Team Leader, with a strong technical background, who isn’t afraid to own business critical problems.  The squad you will lead will be focusing on pricing solutions. Our pricing is dynamic, complex and getting it right is integral to our growth strategy.

What you'll be doing:

  • Ensure the technical direction of the team matches the business strategy, balancing technical debt and non-functional requirements with a need to execute quickly and iteratively

  • Manage a small (4-6 engineers) but high performing team that delivers solutions rapidly and to high quality, ensuring you have the right people in place, supporting their development through consistent feedback and stretch objectives to high performers

  • Collaborate closely with product to enable your team to specify, prioritise and deliver high quality solutions which solve important business problems

  • Work closely with senior leadership, highlighting organisational blockers and aligning everyone around the team’s priorities, as well as flagging where the team needs additional input or support

  • Help energise and invigorate AnyVan and your team’s technical culture, both through day to day interactions, as well as working with our CTO on our technical strategy

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Experience working in a fast paced consumer focused business

  • Bonus points if you've worked with pricing team or in a marketplace or SaaS based business

  • Deep experience with cloud technologies (ideally AWS) and a passion for working with our tech stack with a back end focus (Java with spring, javascript, Vue.Js, Python, PHP)

  • A strong bias to action and accountability mindset to deliver results

  • A fail fast learn quick mentality

  • Whilst it would be great if you have some experience of managing small teams, we're also open to considering a strong senior/lead engineer with a passion for people leadership, ready to step up

  • Able to build excellent relationships and influence key stakeholders (internally and externally) to consistently deliver against key projects

  • Genuine passion for the end product and delivering outstanding technical solutions with pragmatic, logical and maintainable code

  • Familiar with software architecture patterns, database optimisations, infrastructure, scalability and deployment

  • A broad understanding of the software development lifecycle and practical hands-on experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery & QA

  • Experience working in and driving an Agile development environment

  • A bias to action with a proven track record of getting things done at high tempo

  • Currently located in the UK, able to commute to our offices in Hammersmith and happy to be onsite at least 3 days a week.

  • Strong alignment with our company values

Our company values are:

  • Have fun, get it done (work hard play hard, satisfaction in results, do the right thing)

  • Progress over perfection (Innovate and disrupt, Curious and adaptable, Work quick, learn quicker)

  • One team thinking big (Collaborate and communicate, Celebrate wins , Embrace challenges)

DE&I

We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse workplace where every voice is heard, every perspective is valued, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds to be part of our mission and contribute to our vibrant culture.

What We Do

AnyVan makes moving anything easier, more affordable and greener for everyone. Our sole objective is to use technology and innovation to improve the efficiency and experience of the entire delivery and moving process. With over 2.8 million customers across the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Ireland since launch over a decade ago, such work has made us the largest, fastest growing tech company in the logistics industry. We develop and apply leading technologies to manage supply and demand. This allows us to facilitate the most efficient journeys (routes, timings and costs) for transport providers, consumers and many recognised household brands, including TK Maxx, UniDays, Dunelm, Santander and Hunters. Sustainability is a core part of AnyVan’s mission. Using technology to help reduce environmental impact has always been at the top of our agenda. We’re proud to say we’ve achieved carbon-neutral status on all our transport moves, and we won’t stop here. In January 2022, Vitruvian partners invested £125m to acquire a majority stake in the business and provide growth capital to support our expansion, making the largest ever growth capital investment into a UK-based logistics marketplace and reinforcing our position as the UK market leader.
