What We’re looking for:
Are you an experienced and innovative software engineer ready to lead technical excellence in a dynamic global business? We’re looking for a Technical Lead to join our team - a critical position in EROAD’s New Zealand business, suitable for a highly skilled C# engineer with strong leadership experience, proficiency in backend cloud-native application development, and a passion for delivering high-quality, scalable solutions.
About the Role:
As EROAD expands globally, we are seeking a Technical Lead to provide architectural direction, mentor engineers, and directly contribute to developing our platforms. This role combines leadership (30–40%) and hands-on backend engineering (60–70%), working in a self-managed agile environment. Responsibilities include:
Providing technical leadership and inspiring engineering excellence.
Designing and architecting backend features in C#/.NET on Azure.
Advocating and implementing Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Event-Driven Development (EDD).
Driving continuous delivery, automation, and quality measures using DORA metrics.
Collaborating with Product Owners, Delivery Leads, Platform Architecture, Platform Engineering, and Security teams.
Addressing technical debt and improving performance/scalability.
Skills and Experience:
Strong proficiency in C# and relevant backend frameworks.
Experience deploying backend cloud-native solutions (preferably Azure).
Skilled in microservices, RESTful API development, and SQL optimization.
Solid understanding of backend software design patterns, non-functional requirements, and event-driven architecture (EDD).
Experience with automated testing (TDD), CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and trunk-based development.
Desirable: Terraform, Elastic Search, caching/NoSQL, Node.
