The Opportunity
Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (formerly Alere) is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies. The position of Lead Screening Technician is within Toxicology located at Gretna, LA at Alere Toxicology Services. In this role, the individual will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work activities of the technicians when the supervisor is not available, and for operating the instruments used to perform the initial analysis on urine specimens for substance of abuse with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations.
What You’ll Work On

Trains new employees
-
Coordinate duties of personnel when supervisor is unavailable

Retrieve, format, copy and transmit data needed for Legal Packages
-
Operation and maintenance of the screening instrument
-
Place orders for new supplies and reagents when necessary
-
Complete daily logs, and perform related recordkeeping duties
-
Troubleshoot issues with screening instruments
-
Initial review of data
-
Knowledge of screening methods
-
Basic knowledge of drug metabolism
-
Additional functions may include sorting in Accessioning
-
Adhere to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information
-
Must comply with company policies
Required Qualifications
-
High school diploma
Preferred Qualifications
-
BS degree in science or equivalent related field
COMPETENCIES:
-
Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
-
Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
-
Ability to understand certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FUDT, and other regulatory bodies
-
Basic ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
-
Basic understanding of drugs that are tested
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Climate-controlled office and testing laboratory environment

Individuals may be required to handle urine
-
May be potential exposure to toxic or hazardous materials

The base pay for this position is
$20.60 – $41.20/hour
