Title of Course

PSYC 1F90, Foundations of Psychology (Senior Tutor)

Compensation 

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. 
· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties 

The nominal workload for this position is 360 hours per full credit course appointment.  One TA for every twelve (12) PSYC 1F90 seminars. Teaching Assistants will do the following: 1) Attend lectures and take notes; 2) Attend training meetings (normally held on MS Teams) as required by the instructor(s); 3) Demonstrate a complete understanding of all course assignments 4) Provide student contact (in-person office hours, in-person large group tutorials, email; 5) Proctor the December and April exams and attend the grade collation meeting held approximately 7-10 days following each exam; 6) Mark a large number of exams with a quick turnaround time; 7) Mark other written assignments as assigned; 8) Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Each Senior Tutor will be responsible for holding office hours and checking email on one weekday per week. Choice of day will be offered in order of seniority. The applicant who is assigned to Thursdays must be willing to offer an office hour following the evening lecture, from 7-8 pm.  Senior tutors will offer up to 7 in-person office hours per week on their assigned day. The exact number of hours per week will vary depending on the needs of the course.    

Qualifications 

Successful applicants will have worked as a teaching assistant for PSYC 1F90 at Brock University.  Must be able to demonstrate excellence in leading seminars.  Must demonstrate mastery of course content. Must demonstrate a firm knowledge of and compliance with all course policies and procedures.  Must have experience with deploying effective strategies for teaching, lesson planning, and providing feedback to students.  Must have good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data.  Must demonstrate adequate availability to mark a large number of exams in a limited amount of time in the week following the December and April exams.  Must demonstrate adequate availability to lead up to 7 in-person office hours/group tutorials per week during their assigned timeslot (the exact number to vary depending on the week and the corresponding needs of the course).  Must demonstrate adequate availability to mark project components with a quick turnaround time   Must be able to attend all course planning meetings, seminars, and lectures as assigned.  Must be able to take legible and complete lecture notes and to explain lecture concepts to students. 

It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency.  For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 1F90).  For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course outline and grade summary from your student self-serve at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description.  Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
