Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at Regency High School

To support the classroom teacher in providing high-quality, personalised learning and care for young people aged 11–19 with complex learning difficulties. The role involves helping pupils overcome learning, physical, communication, and emotional challenges through patient, encouraging, and inclusive support. 

Apprenticeship Overview:

  • Salary: £8 an hour, Automatic pay increase after one year on programme for 19+ year olds
  • Working Week: Monday 8:40am - 3:30pm, Tuesday 8:30am - 4:45pm, Wednesday 8:40am - 3:30/4:45pm every other week, Thursday 8:30am, 3:30pm, Friday 8:40am - 3:30pm with a 30-minute lunch break each day
  • Hours: 33.5 hours per week
  • Duration: 18 months

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support children’s learning, development, confidence, and independence across the classroom and wider school environment.
  • Provide tailored support to individuals and small groups, including pupils with SEN, physical, emotional, and additional learning needs.
  • Assist teachers with lessons, literacy and numeracy activities, assessments, and individual learning programmes.
  • Encourage pupils through positive reinforcement, praise, and patient guidance, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their potential.
  • Monitor and record pupils’ progress, identifying concerns and sharing observations with teachers and relevant professionals.
  • Support positive behaviour and help children develop their social, emotional, communication, and self-help skills.
  • Adapt and prepare learning activities and resources to meet individual abilities and needs.
  • Support children with personal care, mobility, feeding, and other welfare needs where required and in accordance with school procedures.
  • Help implement programmes recommended by professionals such as educational psychologists and speech and language therapists.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment while supporting safeguarding and health & safety procedures.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, colleagues, and external professionals to provide consistent support for pupils.
  • Assist with PE, swimming, educational visits, group activities, and everyday classroom routines.
  • Maintain a positive classroom environment that encourages independence, self-esteem, curiosity, and a love of learning.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will obtain a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification.
Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.

Potential full-time employment for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship. 

Pre-employment checks. Please be aware that upon a successful offer of employment, the company completes digitalised right-to-work checks and DBS applications via an external provider - 'Matrix Screening'. The company also completes an internal online social media search, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
