All about the role: 

Could you be the caring, enthusiastic Teaching Partner (Teaching Assistant) we’re looking for? Horningsham Primary School is looking for an excellent Teaching Partner to join our friendly and supportive team from September 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in our thriving village school, set in the unique grounds of the Longleat Estate, supporting children to flourish socially, emotionally and academically. 
We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring Teaching Partner (Teaching Assistant) and MDSA to join our supportive and friendly team.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is caring and nurturing.
  • Is passionate about supporting children’s learning and development.
  • Has good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Can build positive relationships.
  • Can work as part of a team.
  • Is proactive and flexible, showing initiative in the classroom and around the school.
  • Is willing to learn and reflect.
  • Will be confident working with mixed-age groups, adapting support to meet the needs of individual learners.
  • Experience of working with children in a school or similar setting would be desirable, but we welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate transferable skills and a genuine commitment to supporting children’s learning.

Additional responsibilities, as part of the MDSA role:

  • Supervise, support and interact with children of all ages in the different areas around the school (playground, school hall etc.) whilst they are eating lunch or taking part in lunchtime activities.
  • Facilitate and support a variety of outdoor play activities for the children at lunchtime.
  • Provide basic first aid when needed.
  • Support the catering team in serving lunches.
  • Clean and tidy the school dinner hall.

Temporary/Fixed Term (to cover staff absence): Full-Time, term time only (38 weeks per year)

This is a temporary fixed term position to cover staff absence. The contract will end when the substantive postholder returns to work or when the cover arrangement is no longer required.

31.25 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8.30am-3.15pm, including a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. This role also includes 30 minutes per day as a Midday Supervisory Assistant.

There may be an opportunity to work up to 2 additional hours per week delivering after-school clubs.
