We are seeking an analytical and driven Tax Manager to support all aspects of tax compliance, reporting, and planning for a complex consolidated group of over 15 entities. The consolidated Westlake Financial group is Partnership structure, with three subsidiaries designated as C-Corporations.
Reporting directly to the Tax Director, this position will play a key role in managing the day-to-day tax operations, ensuring compliance, improving processes, and utilizing data-driven insights to enhance tax accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and highly proficient in SQL and other data query tools — comfortable leveraging technology to support a high-volume, data-rich tax environment.
This role also presents an opportunity to mentor and manage at least one tax staff, with the potential to expand the team as the department continues to demonstrate success. Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Tax Director in overseeing the preparation, review, and filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns across the consolidated group.
- Manage day-to-day compliance processes, ensuring timely filings and accurate reporting for partnerships, C-corporations, and disregarded entities.
- Supervise, train, and review the work of at least one tax staff, fostering professional development and maintaining high standards of accuracy and accountability.
- Perform detailed data analytics, reconciliations, and queries using SQL, Excel, and other data tools to support tax calculations, provision analysis, and reporting needs.
- Review partnership K-1s, 704(b)/704(c) allocations, and other complex partnership tax items.
- Support tax provision work under ASC 740, including quarterly and annual provision calculations and related disclosures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Accounting, Finance, Legal, and IT) to ensure data integrity and streamline tax data workflows.
- Assist in responding to IRS and state tax authority inquiries, audits, and notices.
- Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives within the tax function, identifying opportunities to modernize systems and workflows.
- Stay current on federal, state, and local tax developments and assess potential impacts to the Company.
- Support special projects, including tax research, restructuring, and transaction analyses, as assigned by the Tax Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong technical tax knowledge across federal, state, and partnership tax rules.
- Proficient in SQL, data queries, and Excel (VLOOKUPs, macros, pivot tables, Power Query).
- Familiarity with data modeling or working within large ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, NetSuite, SAP) preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Demonstrated interest in mentoring and developing others, with a desire to grow into a people leadership role.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Education and Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
- Master’s degree in Taxation preferred.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 4+ years of relevant tax experience, ideally in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department within a complex multi-entity organization.
- Experience with partnership taxation and consolidated C-corporate structures strongly preferred.
- Prior exposure to tax provision processes (ASC 740) and tax technology tools a plus.
- Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred but not required.
Compensation Range
$110,000 – $150,000 per year
The exact starting compensation will depend on a wide range of factors, including experience, skill set, education, credentials, and location.
