Job Description:

• Reports directly to the Country Finance Director as part of the Finance Department
• Handles all taxation (BIR) and LGU compliance matters of the company including business permits, tax audits, preparation and filing of tax returns, and other compliance requirements of local tax laws, rules and regulations.
• Acts as the subject matter expert (advisory function) to both internal and external stakeholders when it comes to Philippine taxation and its compliance

🚀 Your next challenge: Lead the company's tax compliance and engage with internal and external stakeholders as an advisor to provide clarity on tax matters.

What you’ll be doing:

- Manage and oversee tax activities and initiatives.

- Develop and implement tax strategies and plans.

- Stay updated with news and changes in tax laws and regulations through research and relevant training, and proactively identify potential risks or opportunities for the company.

- Act as a consultant to top management on tax laws, rules and regulations that may affect or impact operations.

- Identifying, tracking and reporting any potential tax risks or issues and working closely within the company to implement appropriate solutions.

- Coordinate and manage tax audits, inquiries and notices from BIR tax authorities, LGU, SM Tax Team, Group Tax, Group Finance, and other internal and external stakeholders including guidance and support on financial issues, including tax implications of business decisions and transactions.

- Create and develop policies that will ensure tax compliance of the company and foster a culture of tax compliance and awareness by providing training and support as needed.

- Collaborate with other departments to ensure tax strategies and policies are implemented accurately per tax compliance requirements.

- Timely preparation and filing of tax returns and other submissions to the BIR and LGU

- Maintain documentation and records related to tax filings, provisions and other tax-related activities.

- Ensures compliance with local tax laws and requirements of new systems, applications or projects being implemented by the company and resolves any arising issues from their implementation.

- Adapts current process workflows, systems and applications to changes in tax laws. 

- Support GL team in ensuring the accuracy of reported financial balances related to tax (i.e. Income Tax Payable, Withholding Taxes Payable, etc.).

Certifications Requirements:

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent preferred.

Education Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Work Experience Requirements:

- 5-7 years of extensive experience in tax.

- Must be highly experienced in dealing with BIR examiners and tax audits, inquiries and notices as well as with tax consultants

- Must be experienced in internal audits and compliance due diligence audits

- Must be able to report on-site to our Makati Office at least 4 times a week (Hybrid Setup)

- Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

- High level of written and verbal communication skills

- Preferably a Certified Public Accountant

- Professional experience in audit and tax consultancy is a plus

- Strong problem-solving skills, business acumen and attention to details, self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently

- Results driven and deadline-oriented
