Arch is a Series B financial technology company that automates the management of private investments.
The Role

Our Company

Arch is a Series A financial technology company that automates the management of private investments, improving access, understanding, and the human experience of investing across asset classes.

Private investments such as venture capital, hedge funds, and private equity, make up roughly 25% of the investment universe. Traditionally, investors, advisors, banks, families, and managers track hundreds of investments in complicated spreadsheets, file folders, and busy inboxes. Not only is this tedious and time-consuming, but it is rife with opportunity for manual data entry errors, inconsistent reporting, and lost information. Enter, Arch.

Arch delivers standardized data, documents, and insights in a single platform, avoiding the need to chase information across dozens or hundreds of ‘portals’. Our purpose is to save investors’ time while empowering them to make more informed investment decisions, leading to better financial outcomes.

We are a fast-growing, dynamic team of 120+, serving over 400 clients, including several of America’s largest banks, families, and financial institutions. We’ve over doubled the size of the company every year since inception and we are looking to hire in all departments as we scale.

The Role

As a Tax Manager within our Data Operations team, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving strategic tax initiatives to support our business growth. This role focuses on leveraging data and technology to streamline tax processes, provide valuable insights to clients, and ensure compliance. You will manage complex financial data, ensure tax compliance for our clients, prepare necessary documents, and provide clear communication to clients. This role requires expertise in accounting, proficiency in Excel, and the ability to coordinate effectively across different teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Tax Operations & Data Management:

    • Collect, organize, and analyze tax-related data from various sources, including investment platforms, fund administrators, and client portals.

    • Oversee the collection of complex tax returns, including K-1s, K-3s, PFICs, 1042-2, 1095-B, 1098, 5498s, 1099s, and other relevant forms.

    • Run our 1099 program: Coordinating receipt of tens of thousands of 1099s across multiple institutions.

    • Conduct data quality checks in order to identify and resolve data quality issues to ensure accurate tax reporting.

  • Tax Strategy & Insights:

    • Develop and implement tax strategies to enhance client value and competitive advantage.

    • Research and analyze tax laws and regulations to identify areas for improvement and innovation.

    • Stay up-to-date on evolving tax laws and assess their impact on our clients and our company.

  • Process Improvement and Automation:

    • Act as a liaison between Operations, Sales, Product, and Support teams to ensure alignment on tax-related client requirements, product capabilities, and project deliverables.

    • Coordinate with different teams to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business operations.

    • Implement automation tools and technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Client Collaboration and Advisory:

    • Collaborate closely with operations and sales teams to understand client needs and integrate tax considerations into product offerings.

    • Provide tax-related support to clients, including answering questions, resolving issues, and conducting training sessions.

    • Own proactive tax outreach to fund managers, coordinating follow up, and ensuring information is properly maintained and updated in our database.

Reach out to us if you have:

  • Experience working with High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) and/or Single Family Offices, or familiarity with tax considerations in the alternative investment industry.

  • Proficiency using Excel.

  • Have proven experience in fund accounting, preferably with a background in a Big 4 accounting firm or family office/multi-family office setting.

  • Proven experience in managing tax compliance, audits, and reporting for a complex organization.

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, strong attention to detail, and are proactive in resolving issues as they arise.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, advocating for clients internally and providing exceptional support throughout the implementation process.

  • High effectiveness even when faced with ambiguity; comfort in making executive decisions and moving projects forward.

Bonus Points if you have:

  • Experience working at a large accounting firm.

  • CPA certification with demonstrated expertise in tax implications within financial operations.

  • Are familiar with the alternative investment industry and the mechanics of investing in private equity, hedge funds, and private companies or have a background in private banking, investment management, or a related field.

A Note about us:

All of our roles are based full-time at our New York City office, where our team thrives on in-person collaboration and dynamic teamwork. Being onsite daily enables us to build strong connections, collaborate effectively to solve challenges, and foster an engaging environment focused on shipping product and delivering exceptional service to our clients.

  • Product Market Fit - We have strong product market fit, exceptionally low churn, and have grown mostly organically through word of mouth.

  • Team community and camaraderie - We have enormous trust in each other and always do what we can do to support one another. We're always ready to step in to help.

  • Great office - we’ve invested in a great space for the Arch team to come together, at 18th and Park in Manhattan (the old Buzzfeed / NYT headquarters).

  • Lunch is on Us - Grab lunch on us while you’re in the office and take a break to laugh, brainstorm, or just hang out with your teammates over a meal.
