The Tax Manager is responsible for working closely with our top-tier tax firm to oversee tax governance, give direction, prepare inputs, monitor and review deliverables, handle appropriate projects in-house, and constantly improve our systems and processes. The Manager, Tax will have a strong passion for tax, will thrive in a fast-growing company, and will be confident in their ability to work independently, in an organized and detail-oriented fashion. Viral Nation has Canadian and foreign tax requirements.

What You'll Do Here:
Federal and Provincial Income Tax Returns:

  • Preparation and filing of income tax returns for Canadians on a timely and accurate basis (US subsidiary filings will be supported by top-tier tax firm)
  • Working papers and supporting analysis must be prepared on an accurate and timely basis for review by an external accounting firm
  • Identifying accounting issues as they relate to the accurate preparation of tax returns and making recommendations to correct them going forward
  • Ensuring that new tax legislation and changes to company structure are taken into account

Sales Tax Returns:

  • Filing and/or preparation of sales taxes for all subsidiaries
  • Preparation and filing of monthly and quarterly Canadian sales tax returns
  • Reviewing and reconciling field US sales tax returns
  • All filings must be in accordance with prescribed tax laws and regulations

Tax Accounts:

  • Manage CRA, IRS and US state income tax and sales tax audits
  • Manage foreign jurisdiction tax requirements

Current & Future Tax Provisions:

  • Calculating quarterly/year-end tax provisions and future taxes for all Canadian and/or US subsidiaries (supported by top-tier tax firm)
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual tax provision work papers for review by an external auditor
  • Working papers and supporting analysis will need to be in a standard format
  • File and pay all taxes on a timely basis
  • Prepare journal entries as required

Tax Audits:

  • Analysis and support for audit queries from tax authorities

Other Special Projects:

  • Manage SR&ED claims made through external consultants
  • Implement and manage intercompany service agreements and transfer pricing policies
  • Support tax planning and strategy
  • Conduct research on any Canadian or US corporate, indirect or payroll tax issues that may arise

What You Need to Have:

  • Must have 6+ years post-university tax experience
  • CPA, CA or US CPA
  • Canadian tax, as well as transfer pricing experience, is a must (US tax experience would be an asset)
  • Preferred completion of a Master of Taxation program or CICA In-Depth Tax Course (Part 1, 2 and 3) with a strong understanding and application of tax accounting under ASPE and/or IFRS
