Huntsman is seeking a Tax Manager located in Mexico City, Mexico. This position will report to the Global Corporate Tax Department.

Job Scope

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead our tax operations in Mexico, with the potential for growth into a LATAM regional leadership role for the right candidate. This role requires expertise in Mexican tax regulations and offers an exciting opportunity for career advancement within our company. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing Mexican VAT and income tax compliance, ASC 740 provision for income taxes, and handling tax controversies and audits for our operations in Mexico. This role will report directly to the Global Corporate Tax Department.

As the Tax Manager you will:

Tax Planning and Advisory:

  • Provide tax planning and advisory services to internal stakeholders
  • Proactively monitor and plan to reduce outstanding VAT receivables to acceptable levels
  • Identify opportunities for tax optimization and risk mitigation
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in Mexican tax laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions

VAT and Income Tax Compliance:

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of monthly and annual VAT and income tax returns
  • Manage tax risks & opportunities to minimize tax exposure and optimize cash flow
  • Interact with the business units, external advisors, and tax authorities
  • Create and maintain a control framework and policy for managing Tax Compliance

ASC740 Tax Provision:

  • Prepare and review tax provisions in accordance with ASC740 standards
  • Analyze and interpret MITL and regulations related to tax provisions
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation for ASC740 audits
  • Identify and recommend strategies to minimize tax liabilities and improve financial reporting

Tax Controversy and Audit Management:

  • Manage tax audits and controversies with Mexican tax authorities
  • Develop and implement strategies to defend the company's tax positions
  • Maintain robust, audit-ready documentation to support VAT and income tax positions, filings, and claims
  • Analyze and provide for reserves for uncertain tax positions (FIN 48)
  • Coordinate with legal counsel and external advisors to resolve tax disputes

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

  • An independent self-starter with a high level of confidence and a critical approach to matters
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax management at a Big 4 public accounting firm or a publicly traded multination corporation, with a focus on VAT and income tax, showing growth and career progression.
  • Strong knowledge of Mexican tax laws and regulations, including experience with:
    • Dictamen Fiscal / SIPRED
    • ISSIF (Informativa Sobre Situación Fiscal)
    • Transfer pricing regulations and documentation
    • Pedimento (customs declarations)
    • Electronic invoicing and CFDI (administrative process and corrections)
    • Withholding taxes on payments to foreign affiliates
    • Financial instruments and foreign currencies transactions
    • Tax technical research and technical memo writing
  • Strong knowledge of Mexican GAAP (NIF - Normas de Información Financiera) accounting standards
  • Working knowledge of and experience with U.S. GAAP, specifically ASC740 provision for income taxes
  • Extensive experience in managing income tax, transfer pricing, or VAT audits
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and tax preparation software
  • SAP knowledge
  • English fluency

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA or equivalent certification
  • Proficiency with OneSource Tax Provision software, specifically the GAM module
  • Experience working for a Big 4 accounting firm or a U.S.-headquartered multinational corporation is highly preferred
