Avantax, Inc. (Avantax), a unique community within Cetera Holdings, is seeking a Tax Manager who is a talented Tax Planner/Preparer (CPA or Enrolled Agent) with strong leadership values and a client-centric mindset, who will contribute to the growth and direction of our dynamic tax team. You will work alongside our national tax team to develop and scale our domestic tax preparation, compliance, and tax planning offering while partnering with our wealth team with the goal of creating a more holistic and comprehensive solution for clients through the creation of interdependency between these two complementary service lines. This will be a hybrid role in our Noblesville, IN, United States office location.
What you will be doing:
- Preparation of Federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
- Review and analysis of tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance with government regulations.
- Apply functional knowledge to understand potential tax issues and participate in tax planning.
- Assist with identifying and implementing tax savings strategies for clients.
- Communicate with clients to gather necessary information and to explain tax laws and regulations.
- Work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team on both non-recurring and ongoing projects.
- Train junior tax associates in preparing tax returns for clients based on accepted company standards.
- Ensure tax associates are completing required continuing education, as required, based on designations and certifications
- Conduct oversight on tax work conducted by Tax Associates to ensure work product meets professional and ethical standards
- Revise company processes and procedures to ensure a consistent tax client experience and achievement of predetermined service levels.
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators for tax business and coach team members to greater achievement.
- Develop and edit correspondence (IRS or otherwise), memoranda, and other client deliverables as needed.
- Continuous learning to keep up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations.
Partner with Avantax Planning Partner FPCs and FSAs to identify Wealth Management opportunities.
Role-Specific Expectations
- A significant portion of the client work involves in-person collection and delivery of tax documents, so strong interpersonal and client service skills are important.
What you will need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA designation.
- 7+ years of experience preparing federal individual and business (S-Corp; Partnerships, Trusts) tax returns.
- Experience preparing complex tax returns (individual, trust, partnerships and corporations).
- Demonstrated aptitude for strategic planning and execution with the ability to lead toward a growth culture.
- Broad knowledge of state taxes including income, franchise, and transactional tax.
- Ability to work and deliver quality products under tight tax deadlines.
- Desire to grow as a tax professional.

Work Schedule:
The ideal candidate will need to be onsite during tax season (approximately the last week of January through April)
After tax season, the schedule will transition to a hybrid arrangement of three days in the office and two days remote on a consistent, set schedule.
Travel Requirements: Some travel could be required.
Compensation: The base salary range for this role in Noblesville, IN, United States is $94,000 - $120,000. Base salary depends on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and location. Salary range may also differ significantly due to geography and cost of labor considerations.
