Tax Consultant
Description and Requirements
Role Value Proposition :
The Tax Consultant position prepares complex domestic state and local indirect tax returns and tax provisions, covering premium tax and sales and use tax, for life insurance and property casualty insurance entities. This position will assist with state tax audits and will be involved in researching complex tax issues. Maintains current knowledge of indirect state taxation and applies this knowledge in the preparation of tax return filings and tax accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepares complex state and local indirect tax returns, premium tax, for Life and Property and Casualty Companies
• Assists with state and local indirect tax returns, sales/use tax, for non-insurance entities
• Prepares complex statutory and GAAP indirect tax provisions and projections, ensure documentation is properly maintained
• Assists with state and local tax authority audits
• Analyze data and identify opportunities for tax process improvement using technology, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
• Monitors changes in indirect tax laws and regulations, analyze implications and options for compliance plus support the design, build and testing of required changes
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
• Minimum of 4 years public or corporate tax accounting experience
Preferred:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or taxation or an applicable field of expertise or equivalent work experience
• Compliance or accounting experience with indirect taxes; premium tax, sales/use tax
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and initiative in team and independent working environments
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Familiarity with general ledger systems is a plus
