Overview
The Tax Analyst provides guidance and ensures compliance with labor and employment tax regulations, and Federal, State, and Local Tax legislations, for a multi-state payroll. The Analyst ensures the correct tax treatment for various types of earnings and deductions, and ensures the correct and timely collection, remittance and reporting of taxes to the appropriate authority. The Analyst assists with year-end payroll processing, including the issuing of W-2s and W-2c’s where appropriate. In addition, the Analyst performs accounting tasks associated with the maintenance and preparation of Sales and Use tax records and returns and business license taxes. 
What you will need

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or other relevant field of study.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll concepts and principles. 
  • Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 
  • A minimum of 4 years of payroll, sales and use and business tax experience in a corporate environment is required.
  • Advanced analytical skills. 
  • Advanced verbal and written English language skills. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and MS Outlook). 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

How you will make an Impact

  • Validate and ensure the accuracy of employee level tax data. 
  • Create ad hoc reporting to audit data recorded by HR/Payroll to ensure tax reporting is updated appropriately. 
  • Research and collaborate with partners to ensure compliance with employee/jurisdiction-specific requirements. 
  • Coordinate the reporting of miscellaneous taxable items as received and processed in accordance with policy and regulations. 
  • Manage the annual tax reporting process for W-2 generation and posting, including coordinating/initiating required communications, working with vendors to support the receipt, printing, and mailing of forms, reconciliation of reportable items and adjustments. 
  • Record, monitor, and resolve agency tax notices and report timely and accurately to ensure compliance. 
  • Support the needs of the Payroll team to complete payroll as needed each week. 
  • Set up new employees with the proper tax statuses for Federal, State, Local, and SUTA based on home and work locations. 
  • Update employees’ tax statuses based on rehire and transfer. 
  • Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reconciliation of Federal, State and Local taxes.
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll taxes.
  • Assist in preparing sales and use tax returns. 
  • Maintain sales and use tax records and prepare reports or responses to inquiries received from vendors, customers, or taxing jurisdictions. 
  • Research state and local sales and use tax rates and tax exemptions and update financial, accounting, or other systems. 
  • Assist with audits as needed. 
  • Assist with the application and renewal processes for state and local business licenses. 
  • Compile and remit business license taxes as directed.
