Wells Fargo is seeking a Tax Analyst
In this role, you will:
- Perform moderately complex to complex tax accounting activities related to the preparation of federal, state and local income tax returns or the financial statement accounting for income taxes
- Prepare comprehensive tax work papers, perform account analysis, and prepare responses to audit requests
- Research memos or correspondence and embody and model compliance and risk management requirements for supported area
- Exercise proficiency in accounting and multi-jurisdictional income tax laws, rules and regulations
- Develop knowledge of federal and state income tax laws, rulings, regulations and judicial decisions
- Perform basic income tax research
- Maintain records related to income tax returns and reports
- Work with moderate to minimal supervision
- Provide functional advice to less experienced staff
- Consult on income tax related matters with lines of business and other control functions
- Develop relationships with assigned business units related to the collection and analysis of information important to income tax accounting or compliance
- Work with business partners to collect internal financial or tax data, perform data analysis, test for accuracy, identify and resolve data problems
- Participate in projects
- Communicate and provide consultation regularly with mid-level stakeholders companywide
- 2+ years of Corporate Tax, Finance, Accounting, Analytics, Reporting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- CA/CPA/ICWA/MBA-Finance with 2+ years of US corporate tax compliance experience in public accounting and/or multinational corporation
- Basic to intermediate familiarity with data analytics concepts and tools as applied to tax compliance and reporting.
- Experience in using Corptax tax preparation software
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, Power Query, complex formulas, and data validation techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements or efficiencies within a compliance or reporting environment.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on data integrity, accuracy, and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
- Hands-on experience with Alteryx or similar data transformation tools.
- Exposure to AI applications in tax, finance, or data processing environments.
- Banking or financial services tax experience, including familiarity with U.S. GAAP in a financial services environment.
- Experience with Oracle General Ledger and Hyperion Essbase environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across distributed teams.
- Self-starter with strong analytical, technical tax, and research capabilities.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Basic familiarity with SQL or Python for data extraction, transformation, or analytics.
- Prepare and review moderately complex to complex federal and state corporate income tax returns, including book-to-tax adjustments.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and well-documented tax filings with audit-ready workpapers.
- Research tax issues and prepare technical memoranda with clear documentation of positions taken.
- Support responses to tax authority examinations, audits, and information requests.
- Identify and support opportunities to improve efficiency in tax compliance workflows, including data intake and workpaper standardization.
- Support or lead automation and data-related initiatives by applying such tools as Alteryx, Power BI, or similar solutions.
- Assist in developing more standardized and repeatable data processes to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Technology, and Data teams to support alignment of data sourcing and use of technology in tax processes with broader enterprise initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, risk management frameworks, and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with team members and provide guidance and mentorship to promote consistent documentation and data handling practices.
