Tax Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for preparing sales and use tax returns, personal property tax returns, and annual corporate reporting.  Prepare Commercial Rent Tax returns for New York City agencies.  Provide oversight on unclaimed property reporting and escheatment.  Also assist with special projects and unique assignments to ensure that deadlines are met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare sales and use tax returns for all US states
• Prepare Canadian GST/HST/PST/QST returns
• Prepare commercial rent tax returns
• Prepare annual reports and other miscellaneous business tax returns
• Assist with maintenance of Vertex and Diagnostax tax systems
• Assist with tax compliance testing and reporting
• Ensure compliance with state tax laws for sales, personal property, and unclaimed taxes
• Assist with the enhancement/update of existing systems and law changes
• Assist in working with outside tax auditors
• Manage the unclaimed property reporting and escheatment process for Shared Service customers

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required – MBA/CPA is a plus
• 3-4 years Accounting experience with multi-state sales and property tax filing
• Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software applications
• Ability to interface well with other internal departments and outside customers
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
• SAP and/or Hyperion experience is a plus
