Summary:
MediaNews Group is seeking a Tax Accountant to assist the Sr. Tax Accountant and Sr. Tax Director in all areas of the tax function. This position requires a "do-er" who is looking to be involved in all areas of the department, ranging from normal day to day compliance to taking on challenging projects with an opportunity to grow your skills professionally.
Candidates must reside in FL, CO, MA, MN, OH, PA, or TX
What you will do:
- Works with the Sr. Tax Accountant to complete tax compliance functions, including preparing workpapers, filing extensions, making payments, and preparing small income tax returns
- Completes sales tax returns and workbooks for various jurisdictions, including making payments
- Prepares small property tax declarations and pays property tax bills
- Responds to tax notices and maintains online accounts with the various jurisdictions
- Prepares miscellaneous indirect tax filings
- Helps to maintain the tax fixed assets
- Assists with data gathering for unclaimed property compliance and asset recovery
- Works with various newspaper locations to gather information and assist them when necessary
What you will bring:
- Problem solving skills to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting
- Experience with tax software, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel; previous experience with Oracle a plus
- Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and interrelation skills with an ability to establish, build, and maintain relationships with a variety of people across divisions
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and spoken
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or the combination of education and experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position is required
- CPA license or working toward CPA license preferred
- One to two (1-2) years of directly related experience
The annual salary is $62,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
