Join our Human Resources Team as a Talent Services (HR) Generalist located in our New York City office.

We seek a skilled HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, business-driven environment. This individual will have strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and handle confidential information with discretion. With a proactive, client-focused approach, you will support employees and leadership across the employee lifecycle and build strong relationships across the organization.

This role is based in our New York City office on a hybrid basis. You’ll support several offices across the region, including Bridgehampton, Garden City, New York City, and White Plains. In addition, you’ll provide full HR support to our Charlotte, North Carolina office.

Travel to these offices will be required at least once per quarter. While the role offers some flexibility, regular in-office presence in New York City is important for day-to-day operations, team meetings, training, and building strong relationships. This role reports to the Talent Services Regional Manager.

Position Summary

The Talent Services Generalist will support the Talent Services department by providing administrative and operational assistance across human resources functions including onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance. This role serves as a resource for attorneys and professional staff throughout the employee lifecycle, ensuring a positive and seamless experience. The Talent Services Generalist will partner closely with colleagues across the firm to deliver consistent, high-quality HR support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Business Director, Talent Services Regional Manager, Compliance, and employees to support employee relations matters; elevates employee issues as needed

  • Assists managers in dealing with and documenting performance issues; participates in disciplinary meetings or separations

  • Coordinate the onboarding and offboarding processes for attorneys and professional staff, including preparing documentation and conducting new hire orientations

  • Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries related to HR policies, procedures, benefits, and general talent services matters

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee change records in the HRIS system (Workday)

  • Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment; serve as liaison between employees and shared services benefits team in resolving benefit issues

  • Provide guidance and support the administration of employee benefits programs, including new hire enrollments, changes, and terminations

  • Maintain reports, record, and assist with leave of absence administration (e.g.  FMLA, STD, and Workers Compensation), including tracking and coordinating communications with employees and third-party administrators

  • Leads recruiting efforts for professional staff

  • Partner with managers and attorneys to define job requirements and develop job descriptions

  • Work with employment agencies on direct placement hiring and temporary staffing needs

  • Support the performance review process and related communications, alongside the Business Director and Talent Services Regional Manager for professional staff

  • Identify areas of development and make appropriate recommendations for training and development

  • Create and assist with the preparation of HR related reports, audits, and compliance documentation; provides HR metrics as needed

  • Work closely with Talent Services Coordinator, as it relates to leaves, time off policies, internal processes and procedures and planning of internal events

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR processes and procedures

  • Supervise Legal Support Specialists and ensures daily as well as vacation coverage

  • Maintain an active working relationship with Attorneys and Legal Support Specialists to evaluate assignments and to recommend additions and changes, as appropriate

  • Assist other GT offices and department activities as needed, and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education & Prior Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development or a related field

  • SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR or PHR certification a plus

  • Minimum of five years of experience in human resources, big law firm experience preferred

  • General knowledge of HR principles and practices, as well as employment law compliance

  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws

Technology

  • Proficiency with Windows-based software and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required

  • Experience with HRIS & ATS platforms required; Workday experience preferred

  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), including core capabilities, limitations, and importance of data privacy, accuracy, verification, and ethical considerations within a professional services environment

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn AI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools) and incorporate them responsibly into day-to-day workflows to enhance daily work tasks as appropriate and/or directed

  • Proactive approach to learning and adapting to emerging AI and related technologies and contributes to a culture of innovation

The expected pay range for this position is:

$115,000 to $122,000 per year

Salary will be determined based upon education, experience, job related factors permitted by law, internal equity, and market data, including geographic pay differentials in locations where market pay differs from the national average. Full time employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, short term disability, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, 401K, vacation, sick time, and an employee assistance program.  Additional voluntary programs include: voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life, voluntary disability, voluntary critical illness and cancer insurance and pet insurance.  Commuter and Transit programs may also be available in certain markets.
