About Morningstar
Good investing decisions start with good information. Morningstar builds the research, data, and technology that help individual investors, financial advisors, and institutions make sense of markets. We are independent by design — our data and opinions answer to evidence, not to outside influence. That independence makes us a force for good in the markets, bringing transparency and unbiased information to the people who rely on us.
We can only empower investors if our people feel empowered — and that starts with how we hire. Talent Acquisition brings in the people who move that work forward, and for many of them it is their first experience of Morningstar.
About the Role
As a Lead Technical Recruiter, you own recruiting outcomes for Morningstar's technical hiring across North America — engineering, AI/ML, data science, and product — and you set the standard for what great hiring looks like. This is a senior individual-contributor role: you run the most complex searches yourself and raise the bar for the recruiters around you through example and expertise, not direct reports.
Recruiting here runs the way Morningstar's research does — on evidence, independence, and a genuine point of view, not order-taking. Your job is to make that the daily standard for the recruiters around you.
What You'll Do
- Own recruiting outcomes for Morningstar's technical roles across North America — quality of hire, speed, and candidate experience.
- Define what good looks like across intake, sourcing, selection, and closing, and mentor recruiters against a capability model with hands-on feedback that grows true advisors.
- Take on the most complex and senior searches in your area, bringing evidence, judgment, and a clear point of view to every stage.
- Bring genuine technical fluency across AI/ML, engineering, and product — enough to hold credible conversations, assess real depth (not keywords), and partner with engineering, data science, and product leaders to turn technical requirements into search strategy and market maps.
- Serve as the senior TA voice for your domain with business and HR leaders, bringing market intelligence and a clear point of view.
- Make structured, fair, evidence-based selection the standard across your domain, and facilitate calibrated debriefs.
- Own pipeline health for your domain — forecasting risk, intervening early, and turning recruiting data into insight for stakeholders and TA leadership.
- Design and champion AI-assisted recruiting workflows, driving adoption while keeping their use responsible and compliant.
- Contribute to playbooks, training, and process improvements that scale beyond your own searches.
- Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors.
- Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested.
Required Qualifications
- 7 or more years of recruiting experience, including time spent mentoring or coaching other recruiters
- Personal track record owning complex or senior searches with strong, measurable outcomes
- Deep understanding of technical hiring across AI/ML, engineering, and product — you can scope technical roles credibly and speak the language of the teams you hire for.
- Demonstrated ability to set standards and raise the capability of the recruiters around you — people grow under your coaching
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders with market insight and data
- Fluent designing and coaching AI-assisted recruiting workflows
- Solid working knowledge of employment law, EEO, and OFCCP as applied to talent acquisition
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Workday, Paradox and Hired Score
- Track record building or improving a recruiting program, tool, or training curriculum

What We Do
We are a global investment research and financial data company with 40-plus offices across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Our products and services are used daily by individual investors, financial advisors, asset managers, retirement plan providers, and institutional investors. We provide data, research, and analysis across managed investment products, publicly listed companies, private capital markets, debt securities, and real-time global market data. The financial system can have real barriers—hidden information, friction that can slow decisions, and forces that can limit transparency and access. We work to remove them, bringing independent research, connected data, and investor-first tools to a system that needs more clarity. The people doing this work span research, technology, design, product, sales, and functional areas. We build many of our products in-house, so the work can connect directly to the tools investors use to make real financial decisions.
Why Work With Us
Imagining big things is in our blood -- it's transformed us from a company with just a few employees in 1984 to a leading independent investment research company with a worldwide presence today. As of April 2020, we acquired Sustainalytics to drive long-term meaningful outcomes for investors in the ESG space. Join us on this exciting journey!
