TACOM (WVA): Modernization Project Engineer (Contingency)

Program Summary
The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations.

Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary
The Modernization Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering activities related to system upgrades, modifications, and modernization initiatives. This role ensures technical solutions are properly designed, implemented, and integrated while meeting cost, schedule, and performance objectives. Projects will include the design, development, and integration of new systems, components, or technologies.

Roles and Responsibilities 
•    Plan and coordinate engineering efforts related to system modernization and upgrade projects
•    Analyze existing systems and recommend modernization improvements
•    Develop project plans, schedules, and technical documentation for modernization efforts
•    Ensure engineering activities meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives
•    Coordinate with engineers, technicians, and program leadership to execute project requirements
•    Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
•    Support testing, validation, and verification of upgraded or modified systems
•    Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies
•    Ensure compliance with Army Technical Manuals (TMs), engineering standards, and quality requirements
•    Support configuration management and change control processes
•    Prepare technical reports, briefings, and status updates for stakeholders
•    Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and technical evaluations
•    Support audits, inspections, and government reviews as required

Basic Qualifications 
•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, systems, or related discipline)
•    Typically 4-7 years of engineering experience, including experience supporting projects or system integration efforts
•    Working knowledge of engineering design, analysis, and project coordination
•    Experience supporting system modification, upgrade, or modernization activities
•    Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
•    Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
•    Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a structured environment
•    Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required)
•    U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications
•    Previous experience supporting DoD, Army, or TACOM programs
•    Experience working with tactical or ground vehicle systems
•    Familiarity with Army Technical Manuals (TMs), configuration management, and lifecycle sustainment processes
•    Experience supporting project management activities (scheduling, cost tracking, risk management)
•    Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification
•    Prior government contracting experience

Additional Information
This position will be performed in office, maintenance facilities, depots, and field environments that require a combination of desk-based project work and hands-on system evaluation. Duties may involve travel between work sites in support of implementation activities. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.

The salary range for this position is $116,400 - $174,600. Compensation offered will depend on qualifications, experience, work location, and business considerations. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. Additional compensation and benefits may be available based on role eligibility.
