The Job
Work within a corporate information technology operations organization as a VMware/HCI administrator maintaining and updating VMware/HCI environment as per standards. Administering the environment to meet the day-to-day demand in an efficient cost-effective manner. Support projects as required to meet IT objectives while managing available time based on priorities. Provide reports and metrics as needed to support operations requirements analysis and growth planning. Should possess good experience in a mid-to-large environment of Virtualization/ VMWare/HCI experience including host build and guest deployment/management.
Required Skills:
Highly Technical Skilled in VMWare/HCI Administration ESX ESXi 5.5/6.0/6.5/7/8.0 (vSphere) Working experience with vSphere systems for Implementation Administration Documentation for VMware/HCI technology and support including:
- vMotion, HA, DRS, VDS, Affinity rules, VCenter, Storage migrations, P2V migrations
Provide VMware/HCI support 24X7 including incident and work requests within the virtualization infrastructure spanning multiple data centers across multiple VMWare ESX/Nutanix environments Working experience in optimizing VMware/HCI for utilization of SAN storage vSphere Thin Provisioning Resource Pools Host Profiles and EMC plug-ins Experience working with enterprise level network & storage networking (FC SAN iSCSI 10Gb etc.) Creation migration cloning snapshots backup recovery and troubleshooting of Virtual machines. Experience in P2V vMotion and VMware/HCI virtual center. Good understanding of HA and DRS environment. Knowledge of core internet protocols. SMTP DNS FTP HTTP HTTPS System Maintenance and Upgrades: Apply patches upgrades and security updates to VMware infrastructure components. Perform regular system maintenance tasks including health checks performance tuning and troubleshooting. Ability to create and maintain excellent documentation is a must. Good hands-on exp on virtual centre and knowledge of managing Virtual centre database. Creating templates VM deployments and configuration. Assigning. Attaching releasing LUNS from ESX hosts. Working knowledge of ESX and Virtual center servers patching Good hands-on Experience in diagnostics & troubleshooting of ESX server environment. Taking snapshots and restoring snapshots of VM’S Prior experience with or knowledge of the ITIL Framework.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with HP/Dell servers.
- Experience of working with VMC on AWS will be good.
- Experience on Nutanix is a plus.
- VMware Site Recovery Manager and Replication.
- Server Hardware: Hands on exp. with Server Hardware for vendors HP
- Understanding of AD service concepts and working
Installation configurations management updates monitoring and report generating. - Work with project teams to build out new application environments while maintaining security and system standards.
- Incident management - System failure analysis and recovery; insuring system consistency and integrity.
- Proactively managing the environment to prevent incidents from occurring.
- Problem management - Ability to analyse problems determine root cause propose solutions and drive issues to resolution.
Good to have:
- Experience with cloud services (AWS, Microsoft Azure) a plus
- Additional knowledge in basic IT Technologies with a focus on: AWS, Azure, Monitoring tools, SolarWinds and Splunk, Vrops.
- Experience in Snowflake cloud-based platform will be an add on.
