Department OverviewOur customers are public safety agencies, governments, and military organizations who use our mission critical communications systems. The Security Update Service team, part of the Motorola Solutions cybersecurity services organization, protects mission-critical systems by ensuring security updates are verified, tested, and installed.
Job Description
As a Systems Software Engineer at Motorola Solutions, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and resilience of our mission-critical products. You will be responsible for certifying security updates across diverse platforms and building the automated infrastructure that delivers them. This role blends systems administration, cybersecurity, and DevOps to ensure our global customers remain protected against emerging threats.
Key Responsibilities
Security Certification: Evaluate and certify security updates for use on Motorola Solutions Products, ensuring compatibility and stability.
Automation Development: Design and implement clientless solutions to automate the delivery of patches and updates for Windows, Linux, VMware, and other enterprise technologies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal and external teams to resolve defects and streamline security processes.
System Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve complex system and network issues resulting from security updates or configuration changes.
Process Optimization: Analyze existing workflows and collaborate with other teams to drive efficiency through automation.
Reporting & Analytics: Provide detailed visibility into the health and status of running systems, applications, and update cycles.
Preferred Qualifications
Operating Systems: Hands-on experience with both Windows and Linux environments, including troubleshooting and break-fix support.
Automation & DevOps: Proficiency with deployment/configuration tools (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins) and experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines.
Infrastructure: High-level knowledge of AWS, virtualization (VMware), and containerization.
Networking: Strong understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, ports, protocols, and network devices.
Programming & Tools
Scripting: Experience in one or more languages: C, C++, C#, Shell, PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Node.js.
Development: Proven experience in developing JavaScript applications.
Tools: Familiarity with version control (e.g., GitHub, BitBucket) and project tracking systems like Jira.
Professional Skills
Organization: Must possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple update cycles and technical priorities.
Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical issues and solutions to stakeholders at various levels.
Target Base Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000 USD
