Company Description

For almost 50 years, Williams F1 has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. With an almost unrivalled heritage of engineering and racing F1 cars and unforgettable eras that demonstrate it is a force to be reckoned with, the British squad boasts 16 F1 World Championship titles to its name.

Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team has made history before and is out to make it again with a long-term mission to evolve and return to the front of the grid.

Job Description

About the Role:

Williams F1 Team are embarking on an exciting new project - homegrown transmission & hydraulics systems. Our Systems Simulation team sit right at the heart of car development. These are not back-room support roles - systems simulation engineers here directly inform design decisions, shape performance targets, and have a visible hand in what ends up on the car.

We are hiring two Systems Simulation Engineers, each with a primary focus area: one centred on suspension and ride, one on fuel, hydraulics, and transmission. You don't need to be an expert in these systems yet - but an interest and relevant studies are key! Working closely with Powertrain, Performance Optimisation, and teams across the Design Office, you will build and validate 1D physics-based simulations, correlate models against test and track data, and use those outputs to evaluate design concepts and drive performance targets - linking system behaviour directly to lap time and reliability.

About You:

We're looking for engineers with the knowledge and potential to develop into experts in their own right. You think beyond the model. You know how to build rigorous simulations, but you also know when to stop refining - and you can explain why. You will likely bring:

  • Experience building 1D simulations of mechanical systems (hydraulics, suspension, fuel, transmission, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Dymola or MATLAB/Simulink, with Python used comfortably for analysis
  • An ability to correlate models to real test or track data, and the judgement to know what good looks like
  • The ability to connect simulation outputs to engineering decisions, not just numbers

Motorsport experience is a natural fit, but what matters most is first-principles led engineering and the quality of your thinking. If you have built models that have shaped real engineering decisions, we want to hear from you.
