ChampionX has an immediate need for a Systems Engineering Manager. The position is remote with travel as needed. As a Systems Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for lifecycle management of all ChampionX Digital Technologies products. Within this role you will be a key contributor to product innovations driving profitable revenue growth. Also, you will strategize and implement plans that differentiate ChampionX Digital from its competitors. This position is part of the strategic leadership team of ChampionX that drives business success. Also, this position is accountable for managing a multidisciplinary Engineering Team to design and develop innovative automation technology used for artificial lift oil production. Responsibilities would include directing, leading and driving all aspects of the cross functional product development related activities, from conception to production release.

What You Will Do:

  • Review engineering design results to ensure that work is accomplished according to project requirements, as well as established processes, procedures, methodologies, and standards.
  • Creates, tracks and reports team metrics as needed.
  •  Provides necessary professional development and training to ensure talent growth.
  • Manages activities related to engineering equipment and facilities.
  • Responsible for all personnel issues within the Engineering Department.
  • Develops, maintains, and implements policies, standards, and procedures for the department. (E.g. the Engineering Quality Management System.)
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Meets with remote engineering staff, management, and department heads.
  • Provides design details where needed and recommends modifications to engineering designs as necessary.
  • Documents detailed product technical specifications by direct action or delegation.
  • Ensures compliance with industry standards (UL, CSA, CE, IEC, API, ISO-9001, etc.) as required.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner using root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Creates and maintains product and technology roadmaps.
  •  Ensure that the company’s intellectual property is identified and protected.
  • Demonstrated skills with Project & Project Portfolio Management.
  • Documents detailed customer requirements, constraints, and assumptions by direct action or delegation.
  • Authors the project plan and executes the tasks to achieve the project goals.
  • Monitors and controls project work.
  • Manages changes to the project scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Measures project performance, identifies and quantifies variances, performs required corrective actions, and communicates to all stakeholders.
  • Identifies and mitigates project risks to minimize the impact of the risks on the project.
  • Manages the group of current and proposed projects to determine the optimal resource mix and to best achieve the company’s operational and financial goals.
  • Drive product development to meet time-to-market needs.
  • Cross Functional Teamwork
  • Works with management, operations, sales and other department staff to communicate project requirements, general expectations and status throughout the development life-cycle.
  • Acts as a consultant to the sales and field service departments on service problems to ensure customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of related experience + Bachelor’s degree OR minimum 5 years of related experience + advanced degree
  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • Advanced degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective leadership, organizational, and communications skills to manage technically oriented multi-disciplinary personnel and to maintain effective working relationships with other department heads.
  • A demonstrated history of recruiting and training strong technical professionals.
  • A demonstrated history of creating a strong engineering / product development organization and continuous improvement.
  • A demonstrated mix of technical, personnel leadership, and project management.

Required Technology Skills:

  • Familiar with programming languages: C, C++, C sharp, python and embedded system.
  • Familiar with a variety of sensor technologies and analog conditioning.
  • Experience managing projects and familiar with Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
  • Strong background and familiarity with deploying and troubleshooting networked solutions, including: 802.3, 802.11, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, 802.15.4, BLE and LoRa.
  • Highly skilled in design process, development process, sustaining engineering processes and procedures, including stage gate, engineering change management, design verification and product validation.
  • Skilled in reviewing the work of engineering board-level schematics, board layout, signal chain diagrams, process loop drawings, packaging and cable assembly drawings.
  • Skilled in specifying COTS devices to integrate into IoT solutions.
  • Experience in using IOT stack protocols, especially MQTT, and AMQP.

Preferred Technology Skills:

  • Experience managing projects and familiar with FPGA technologies.

  • Preferred experience with:  gcc, EWARM, Quectel SC20, PIC32, Nordic IOT chips, IAR Workbench, and Altium, AutoCADLT, Jira, Azure devops, SQL, document database (NoSQL), SolidWorks, Altium EDA, Embedded Linux and Yocto toolset, battery power optimization tool and techniques, design for Hazloc areas and zones, REACT / Angular web stack.
