General Accountability:

The Systems Engineering Developer is responsible for assisting with the design and verification of Profound’s medical devices. As part of the larger development team, the Systems team members work on the integration of hardware, software, imaging sequence optimization, system MRI-compatibility, and device performance / disposables verification.

In addition, the role supports clinical, service, QA and regulatory activities related to the products.

Testing is performed offsite at MRI facilities in the Toronto Area, USA, and EU as required. The design, data analysis, and reporting are conducted at Profound’s main office in Toronto.  A valid passport and ability to travel on short notice is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a positive, high-performance team environment
  • Participate in the development of system requirements and specifications of the device
  • Create, update, and execute test procedures
  • Co-ordination of system-level activities as part of design development and testing of the Company’s products
  • Develop, test, and optimize MRI sequences for various MRI models
  • Contribute to the hardware and software designs of the devices
  • Perform verification MRI testing and writing verification reports
  • Report defects in defect tracking system and verify fixes for defects
  • Investigate product complaints, perform root cause analysis of failures, and propose remediation in a timely fashion.
  • Develop MATLAB scripts to support verification activities and to improve the product
  • Develop computer simulations to investigate changes to the treatment parameters for product development and regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure documentation adherence to Profound’s Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Support risk management and usability engineering activities
  • Travel (20-50%) to support business activities

Education and Certification:

  • University degree in Engineering or Science

Key Attributes (experience, skills and technical knowledge):

  • 3+ years MRI experience working with Philip’s, GE or Siemen’s magnets
  • Experience with MRI console operation, Device-compatibility testing with MRI or MR-sequence development (highly desired)
  • Solid understanding MRI physics 
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MATLAB
  • Working knowledge of general information technology: Windows, IP networking, basic security, etc.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Previous experience with image processing and data analysis using standard tools (i.e. Excel, MATLAB)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to write and execute test plans
  • Detail-oriented
  • Experience with JIRA Atlassian or similar issue tracking system
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Valid passport for travel to United States and Europe
  • Ability to travel on short notice

The expected salary range for this role is $70,000.00 - $110,000.00 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors. This role may also be eligible for participation in the company’s benefits programs, such as a group RRSP and medical benefits paid by the employer.

Skills Required
