The Role

Company Overview

Red 6 is an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) technology startup leading the way in synthetic air combat training. Our primary technology, supporting our ATARS product, enables pilots to simulate the cognitive challenges of flying while accessing realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments.

The Role

Red 6 is seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to lead the coordination, integration, and management of complex engineering systems that power our cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) and aviation platforms. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, strong systems thinking, and excellent cross-functional collaboration. The Systems Engineer will ensure that system architectures are well-designed, technical decisions are data-driven, and product requirements are fully realized through effective integration of hardware and software components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform flow-down allocations of high-level product requirements to subsystems and components.

  • Conduct technical analysis to support engineering decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and optimize system performance.

  • Collaborate with engineers across hardware, software, optics, avionics, and other disciplines to ensure the system design is cohesive, feasible, and aligned with overall product goals.

  • Create and maintain specifications and a comprehensive requirements management database.

  • Develop and maintain system block diagrams and interface control documentation (ICDs).

  • Track and manage allocations of weight, power, and other resource budgets across system components.

  • Collaborate with test engineering to ensure thorough verification of system requirements and performance.

  • Lead system integration planning and oversee integration and verification activities.

  • Participate in Change Control Board (CCB) processes and provide impact analysis for design or requirements changes.

  • Facilitate technical risk management activities and proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.

  • Serve as a primary technical interface to drive effective communication and alignment across project teams.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a systems engineer, preferably working on multidisciplinary systems that integrate hardware and software.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across cross-functional engineering teams and disciplines.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience performing trade studies and technical analysis to support design decisions.

  • Experience with requirements management tools and structured engineering processes.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with at least one or more of the following technical areas:

    • Hardware/software integration

    • High-precision optical systems

    • Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality (AR/VR) systems

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred.
