The Systems Engineer for Mechatronic Application & Testing is responsible for the integration, validation, and formal sign-off of mechatronic vehicle systems — combining mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software/control elements. This role ensures that mechatronic subsystems (e.g., actuators, sensors, motors, control units, and closed-loop control systems) meet functional, performance, safety, and durability requirements prior to release, and serves as the technical authority accountable for sign-off decisions at key program milestones.
ResponsibilitiesMechatronic Systems Integration & Testing
Develop, execute, and maintain test plans and validation strategies covering the mechanical, electrical, and control/software interactions of mechatronic systems (e.g., electric power steering, e-actuators, motors/gear systems, sensor-actuator control loops, closed-loop feedback systems)
Conduct bench, rig, HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop), SIL (Software-in-the-Loop), and full-vehicle testing to verify system-level requirements across mechanical tolerances, electrical performance, and control logic behavior
Evaluate system-level interactions between mechanical components, sensors/actuators, embedded control units, and software algorithms to identify integration risks
Analyze test data (mechanical, electrical, and control system telemetry) to diagnose faults, and lead root-cause investigations with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams
Sign-Off & Release Management
Own and drive formal system-level sign-off for mechatronic subsystems at program gateways (e.g., DV, PV), integrating mechanical, electrical, and controls evidence into a unified sign-off package
Prepare DVP&R documentation, test evidence, and risk assessments; present sign-off recommendations to cross-functional review boards and program leadership
Track and resolve open issues, non-conformance, and engineering waivers spanning mechanical, electrical, and software domains prior to sign-off
Maintain requirements traceability across mechanical specifications, electrical/electronic interfaces, and control software requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as the technical integration point between mechanical design, electrical/electronic engineering, controls/software, and quality teams
Collaborate with suppliers on mechatronic component and system-level validation, ensuring compliance with OEM specifications
Support DFMEA/PFMEA reviews across mechanical failure modes, electrical faults, and control system malfunctions
Communicate sign-off status, technical risks, and mitigation plans clearly to engineering management and program stakeholders
Process, Standards & Documentation
Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO 26262 Functional Safety, IATF 16949, ASPICE, SAE) for mechatronic systems
Maintain audit-ready documentation of test results, calibration data, and sign-off approvals
Contribute to continuous improvement of test rigs, HIL environments, and sign-off methodologies for mechatronic applications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering
3+ years of experience in mechatronic systems engineering, application engineering, or systems validation within automotive
Solid understanding of mechanical design principles (tolerances, kinematics, materials) combined with electrical/electronic circuits and embedded control systems
Hands-on experience with test tools/environments (HIL, dSPACE, CANoe/CANalyzer, LabVIEW, or equivalent)
Familiarity with requirements management tools like Jama and control system modeling (MATLAB/Simulink)
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills across multi-domain systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-disciplinary technical reporting
English proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) and ASPICE processes for mechatronic/embedded systems
Knowledge of vehicle network protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, FlexRay)
Experience testing closed-loop control systems, motor/actuator performance, or sensor fusion applications
