At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As a systems engineer with established expertise across the full SE development lifecycle, you will own subsystem requirements for fluid systems on New Glenn's launch pad infrastructure — including high-pressure gas, cryogenic, and hydraulic systems. You will deeply understand and communicate the impacts of design and verification decisions, driving cross-functional resolution from specification through verification.

This role requires close collaboration with piping/fluid system designers, supporting CONOPS development, ICD maintenance, and building strong working relationships with the engineers and operators who design, build, and test these systems. You'll interface regularly with New Glenn Systems Engineering, the Launch Ops Architecture team, and participate in gated design reviews.

We're looking for someone whose core strength is fluids/piping systems, who also brings enough breadth in adjacent disciplines (controls, software, structures, electrical) to understand how fluid subsystems interact with the rest of the vehicle/pad ecosystem.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Co-lead assessment and definition of fluid subsystem solutions (piping, gas panels, hydraulic systems) for the next-generation Launch Pad
  • Serve as the SE focal point for one or more fluid/piping subsystems — hands-on collaboration with designers on routing, sizing, material selection, and pressure/flow requirements
  • Own verification planning, tracking, and coordination for fluid systems, while understanding downstream impacts on controls, software, and structural interfaces
  • Plan and coordinate subsystem test/activation/commissioning with the Operations Team — particularly around hydrogen, nitrogen, and high-pressure gas system startups
  • Conduct strategic subsystem lookaheads, flagging emergent risks related to fluid compatibility, pressure ratings, material degradation, or cross-discipline integration issues
  • Support milestone design reviews with fluids-specific technical rigor, while collaborating effectively with controls, avionics, and structural SEs

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on systems or design engineering experience, with a primary emphasis on fluid systems — piping design, gas systems, hydraulics, or cryogenics (aerospace, oil & gas, industrial, or chemical process industries all relevant)
  • Working knowledge of piping system design/conceptualization — routing, sizing, material selection
  • Familiarity with at least one additional discipline — controls, software, avionics, electrical, or structures — sufficient to collaborate effectively across subsystem boundaries (this is a plus, not a requirement to exclude strong fluids-only candidates)
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills — ability to translate fluid systems complexity for cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and drive systems engineering tasks independently
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, primarily to Cape Canaveral, FL and/or West Texas test sites
  • Experience with requirement management tools (e.g., DOORS/DNG) or willingness to learn
  • Experience with aerospace or industrial safety standards and verification methods
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience specifically with cryogenic fluid systems (LH2, LOX, LNG)
  • Experience with high-pressure gaseous systems (GN2, GHe, pneumatics)
  • Cross-disciplinary experience integrating fluid systems with controls/avionics (e.g., valve actuation logic, sensor integration, automated fluid sequencing)
  • Familiarity with piping stress analysis or fluid dynamics modeling
  • SE tools: JIRA, Microsoft Project/Visio, Cameo
  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Systems or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with Launch Pad and / or Test Operations
  • Knowledge of ASME, NFPA, or CGA standards related to gas/fluid systems
