Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer – Level 4 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA.

Furthermore, this position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance at the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
In this role, the Systems Engineer – Level 4 will work in tandem with a scrum team of other software and systems engineers responsible for defining the product vision, managing the product backlog, and ensuring that all features align with business objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to prioritize tasks and facilitate the timely delivery of high-quality mission focused software systems solutions. Additionally, you will incorporate user feedback to continuously refine the product roadmap and drive innovation in response to evolving customer needs. Development is done within the Agile paradigm using the Atlassian tool suite, so you will need to be able to work within an Agile environment.
You will have experience in systems engineering with space domain knowledge, and you will define the requirements, interfaces, processes, use cases, protocols, schemas, sequence of interactions driving the software design for Ground Segment Functions for a system. You will integrate and test software segments, automate tests, verify requirements, and deliver products to operations. You will be supporting a program through full life-cycle milestones in Agile sprints to achieve the mission, you will have strong verbal and written communication skills, and you are expected to operate independently with little oversight in a dynamic environment. You will have experience with MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering), CAMEO, SysML diagramming, requirements & verification, domain and mission knowledge, and work with or as software system engineering. You are highly self-motivated, reporting information to leads and the customer. You are expected to handle diverse assignments with efficiency, find unique solutions, and work in a very collaborative and fast-paced environment that continues to grow.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Drive development and execution of features for the satellite ground systems domain with familiarity in reading CAMEO/MBSE models
- Participate in working groups, research customer needs and interfaces, and then translate them into digital artifacts to enable software implementation
- Support and/or lead development of verification planning, test requirements, and other key products
- Work scope covers a range of Systems Engineering disciplines and products, including requirements & verification, interfaces, architecture, and design, integration, test and sell-off
- Engage in sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives, and reviews while maintaining alignment with product vision and mission goals
- Provide subject matter expertise in Space-Vehicle Command and Control System areas and collaborate with other teams and unit level engineers supporting subsystems
- Conduct demos and briefings for customers and senior leadership
- Ensure seamless integration of capabilities, epics, and features with ground satellite software systems solutions
- Utilize Atlassian tool suite, including Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases
- Support and/or lead preparation and execution of milestones and Agile product increments
- Engage with multiple working groups and control boards

Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer – Level 4:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 8+ years of engineering experience OR
- Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 6+ years of engineering experience OR
- PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 4+ years of engineering experience
- Candidate must have an active SCI at time of application and prior to start date. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance at the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
- 2+ years of experience with developing and evaluating behavioral and structural architecture diagrams using MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering) methodology and tooling or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience using No Magic Cameo or equivalent
- Experience with space-vehicle, command-and-control, mission management, mission data processing, or software subsystems
- Demonstrated written and oral communications skills through written requirements, test, and evaluation criteria
- 2+ years of experience with Systems Engineering processes and artifacts development in support of SW development, including use cases, interface control documents, class diagrams, sequence diagrams, database design, schema development, and SW protocols such as REST, HTTP, & RESP or equivalent
- Experience working on Agile programs and methodology
Preferred Qualifications for Systems Engineer – Level 4:
- 3+ years of experience with command-and-control, network management, flight dynamics, and/or orbit determination for space-vehicle related software systems
- Experience working with Space Vehicle Subsystems including thermal, power, attitude control system, propulsion, and/or communications
- Familiarity with cloud-based architectures such as Kubernetes, containers, and orchestrators
- Experience working mission focused threads
- Experience with the software development lifecycle
- Experience with JIRA/Confluence
- Experience working with a geographically distributed team
- Experience with Automated Test and Integration frameworks including Playwright

Primary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
