Systems Engineer II

 

 

Overview

The Systems Engineer II will support the definition, development, integration, verification, validation, and technical support of inertial measurement and navigation products for aircraft, UAVs, missiles, land vehicles, sea platforms, and other aerospace and defense applications.

The engineer will work with senior systems engineers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to translate customer needs into system requirements, architectures, interfaces, models, analyses, verification activities, and technical solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer needs and support the development of clear, complete, and testable system and subsystem requirements.
  • Perform requirements capture, analysis, decomposition, allocation, flow-down, and traceability.
  • Develop, document, and maintain system specifications, interface definitions, CONOPS, use cases, functional analyses, and other systems engineering artifacts.
  • Support functional, logical, and physical system architecture development.
  • Define and analyze interfaces among navigation, hardware, software, electrical, mechanical, test, manufacturing, and external systems.
  • Support model-based systems engineering and digital engineering activities, including system modeling, system behavior, requirements relationships, interfaces, and verification relationships, as applicable to assigned work.
  • Use requirements-management and modeling tools such as IBM DOORS, Cameo, MagicDraw, or comparable tools, as applicable to assigned work.
  • Participate in engineering trade studies, technical assessments, simulations, and system-level analyses.
  • Support the development of verification strategies and maintain traceability between requirements, design elements, and verification methods.
  • Support verification matrices, test plans, test procedures, qualification activities, and objective evidence.
  • Participate in hardware/software integration, system integration, troubleshooting, verification, validation, and qualification testing.
  • Analyze engineering and test data to identify trends, inconsistencies, requirements discrepancies, and potential system-level issues.
  • Support technical investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action activities.
  • Support the definition, analysis, and verification of system-level navigation performance and behavior in coordination with Navigation & Guidance and Algorithms teams.
  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure product designs satisfy system-level requirements and customer needs.
  • Participate in technical reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, qualification reviews, and customer program reviews.
  • Prepare and present technical information, analyses, recommendations, and results to engineering teams, program personnel, management, suppliers, and customers as appropriate.
  • Support new product development, production support, field support, proposal activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform assigned engineering tasks within established project schedule, cost, quality, configuration-management, and security requirements.
  • Travel approximately 15% for customer reviews, integration and test activities, supplier meetings, and technical meetings.

Critical Competencies

  • Working knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle and V-model.
  • Understanding of requirements development, decomposition, allocation, flow-down, verification, and traceability.
  • Basic understanding of system architecture, functional analysis, interface definition, and technical trade studies.
  • Understanding of system integration, verification, validation, qualification, and test concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, requirements, interface documentation, schematics, technical drawings, and test data.
  • Ability to work across electrical, mechanical, software, navigation, test, manufacturing, quality, and program disciplines.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering, SysML, Cameo, MagicDraw, or comparable modeling methods and tools is desirable.
  • Familiarity with IBM DOORS or a comparable requirements-management tool is desirable.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of inertial navigation, inertial measurement units, GPS/GNSS, avionics, guidance, or related aerospace systems is desirable.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Two or more years of engineering experience, preferably involving systems engineering, product development, integration and test, aerospace, or defense.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following is preferred:
    • Requirements development or management
    • System architecture or interface definition
    • Model-based systems engineering or SysML modeling
    • System integration and troubleshooting
    • Verification, validation, or qualification testing
    • Technical analysis and root-cause investigation
  • Experience with IBM DOORS, Cameo, MagicDraw, or comparable tools is desirable but not required.
  • Aerospace and/or defense experience is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, if required by assigned programs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary engineering environment.


This position is 100% onsite at our Pine Brook, NJ location.


In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $93,000 - $122,000 Annually.  This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
